  • Blue Jackets' Kent Johnson: Skating Monday

Johnson (shoulder) skated after Columbus' main practice Monday, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

Johnson is not expected back until late November due to his long-term shoulder injury, but it certainly could have been longer had he required surgery. While it's a step in the right direction, fantasy managers probably shouldn't get too excited about the imminent return of the 22-year-old center until he takes contact in a full practice.

  • Blue Jackets' Adam Fantilli: Pockets assist Saturday

Fantilli logged an assist and four shots on goal in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Capitals.

Fantilli has four points over his last five games as he continues to look solid in a middle-six role. He was back in the power-play mix Saturday since James van Riemsdyk was scratched, though Fantilli's role with the man advantage has been slipping lately. The 20-year-old center is still a decent option for fantasy managers in deep formats. He has six points, 29 shots on net, nine hits, nine blocked shots and a minus-1 rating through 11 contests.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Lights lamp in loss

Severson scored a goal on three shots in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Capitals.

Severson's scored twice over the last three games, though those tallies are his only points in seven contests. The 30-year-old defenseman got the Blue Jackets on the board early in the second period, but after the Capitals' five-goal opening frame, it was too late to make an impact. Severson has three goals, three assists, 20 shots on net, 17 blocked shots, nine hits, eight PIM and a plus-2 rating across 11 outings this season while serving in a top-four role.

  • Blue Jackets' Kevin Labanc: Lights lamp Saturday

Labanc tallied a goal and added three shots during Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Capitals.

Labanc netted his first goal of 2024-25 after potting six goals for the Devils in the preseason before signing with the Blue Jackets. Labanc has reached at least the 40-point plateau twice in his NHL career and could work his way up the depth chart, given that he has a goal and six points through eight outings for the Blue Jackets. Still, he needs more consistency to become a useful fantasy asset.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Aston-Reese: Dishes helper

Aston-Reese registered an assist during Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Capitals.

Aston-Reese ended a three-game point drought with the helper and has posted a respectable two goals and four points in 11 appearances while averaging 11:15 of ice time skating on Columbus' fourth line. The 30-year-old winger has always been a useful role player in his NHL career, but a lack of top-six minutes limits his overall fantasy upside.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Scorched in loss

Tarasov turned aside 15 of 22 shots in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Capitals.

The Capitals scored on their first three shots and put five on Tarasov in the first period alone. The 25-year-old has given up three or more goals in five of his six starts this season despite posting a 3-2-1 record over that span, making him a risky fantasy play at this time.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Defending crease Saturday

Tarasov will guard the road goal against Washington on Saturday, per Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site.

Tarasov is coming off a 29-save performance in last Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville. He has a 3-1-1 record with a 3.42 GAA and an .886 save percentage through five appearances this season. Washington ranks third in the league with 4.11 goals per game this campaign.

  • Blue Jackets' James van Riemsdyk: Hands out helper

Van Riemsdyk notched an assist in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Jets.

Van Riemsdyk continues to hold down a bottom-six role. He has three points and a plus-3 rating over his last five contests, though it's a spot on the second power-play unit that gives him a path to fantasy interest in deep formats. The veteran winger is up to four points, seven shots on goal and a plus-1 rating through 10 outings this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Kirill Marchenko: Logs power-play helper

Marchenko notched a power-play assist in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Jets.

Marchenko picked up his third power-play point of the year on a Sean Monahan tally in the second period. The 24-year-old Marchenko hasn't scored in three games, but he has three assists in that span. The winger is up to 12 points, 21 shots on net and a plus-6 rating through 10 contests overall -- production strong enough to help him stay in a top-line role.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Records power-play assist

Werenski provided a power-play assist and four shots on goal in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Jets.

Werenski had a shot attempt tipped home by Sean Monahan for the Blue Jackets' second goal. Through 10 contests, Werenski has three goals and six assists, with four of his nine points coming on the power play. The defenseman has added 36 shots on net, 10 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating. As long as he stays healthy, Werenski can be a force on offense from the blue line, making him a reliable fantasy option.

  • Blue Jackets' Sean Kuraly: Tallies in loss

Kuraly scored a goal and blocked two shots in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Jets.

Kuraly has earned all three of his points this season over his last four games. The 31-year-old center remains firmly in a fourth-line role, with his physical play and defensive work making him a lock for the lineup. He's supplied just four shots on net to go with 15 hits, six blocked shots and a plus-4 rating through 10 appearances this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan: Scores 250th career goal

Monahan scored a power-play goal on three shots in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Jets.

Monahan was able to tip home a Zach Werenski shot to get on the board against the team he ended 2023-24 with. The 30-year-old Monahan has been consistent as the Blue Jackets' top line center this season. He has six goals, four assists, 34 shots on net and a plus-4 rating through 10 contests, and he's yet to be held off the scoresheet in consecutive games.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Can't handle Jets

Merzlikins stopped 38 of 44 shots in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Jets.

While the Blue Jackets have proved some doubters wrong early on, the Jets' relentless offense was too much for Merzlikins to handle Friday. He had won his last two starts, including a shutout over the Islanders on Wednesday. The 30-year-old is now 2-3-0 with a 2.86 GAA and a .907 save percentage over five starts this season. Merzlikins will likely get Saturday off with Daniil Tarasov expected to start on the road against the Capitals. Merzlikins is likely to start two of three games during the Blue Jackets' swing through California next week.

  • Blue Jackets' Dmitri Voronkov: Returns to action Friday

Voronkov (upper body) will make his season debut versus Winnipeg on Friday, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

Voronkov was injured in a preseason game against the Penguins, and it was thought that he would be out of action until the end of November, but he is ready to play. The 24-year-old had 18 goals and 34 points in 75 regular-season games last season. Look for Voronkov to begin as a bottom-six forward upon his return.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Between pipes Friday

Merzlikins will tend the twine in Friday's home game against the Jets, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

Merzlikins is riding a two-game winning streak during which he has given up just one goal on 58 shots (.983 save percentage). While that streak does include a win over the Oilers, Friday's matchup will likely be the 30-year-old backstop's toughest test of the season, as he squares off with a Winnipeg team that is scoring a league-high 4.60 goals per game. With a back-to-back on the schedule, look for Daniil Tarasov to guard the cage on the road versus Washington on Saturday.
