  • Ducks' Urho Vaakanainen: Not getting much playing time

Vaakanainen was scratched for the 10th time in 11 games when he sat out Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

Vaakanainen signed a one-year deal to remain with the Ducks in July after he was not given a qualifying offer in June. The 25-year-old defenseman has served as a healthy scratch most of the time, though he's now the only spare blueliner in Anaheim after Tristan Luneau was reassigned to AHL San Diego on Friday. Vaakanainen may rotate into the lineup for one of the Ducks' younger defensemen at times, but it would likely take another player's injury for him to have a chance at steady playing time.

  • Ducks' Ross Johnston: Assist, fight in loss

Johnston notched an assist, six hits and five PIM in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

Johnston fought Patrick Maroon in the second period before adding a helper on a Brock McGinn tally in the third. The 30-year-old Johnston has not seen steady playing time so far -- this was just his fifth appearance in the Ducks' 11 games. The physical winger has racked up 12 PIM, 19 hits, five blocked shots and a plus-2 rating while serving exclusively on the fourth line when in the lineup.

  • Ducks' Ryan Strome: Adds power-play helper

Strome logged a power-play assist and six shots on goal in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

Strome's first power-play point of the campaign came on a Mason McTavish in the dying seconds of the game. The 31-year-old Strome has filled his role as a secondary scorer well, pocketing six points over 11 contests. He's added 26 shots on net, four PIM, five hits and five blocked shots. He was on the top line Sunday but has more frequently served as a middle-six option. The Ducks have a lot of versatility up front, so expect change to be the only constant among their top-nine forwards.

  • Ducks' Troy Terry: Snags power-play helper

Terry recorded a power-play assist and three shots on goal in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

Terry helped out on Mason McTavish's tally near the end of the game. The 27-year-old Terry has been steady but not explosive on offense this season, finding the scoresheet in nine out of 11 contests, including an eight-game streak from Oct. 13-29. He's produced five goals, four assists, three power-play points, 26 shots on net and a minus-3 rating. After beginning the year on the third line, his reliable scoring has allowed him to get back into the top six.

  • Ducks' Brock McGinn: Tickles twine Sunday

McGinn scored a goal and added two hits in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

McGinn has scored both of his goals this season over his last four contests. The 30-year-old winger got the Ducks on the board midway through the third period. He's been a fixture on the fourth line, earning four points, 11 shots on net, 32 hits, 15 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating across 11 outings. McGinn has minimal scoring upside, but he's already surpassed his point total from 24 games last year.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Strikes late on power play

McTavish scored a power-play goal on three shots in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

It was a garbage-time goal -- McTavish tallied with four seconds left in the game to cut the deficit to two goals far too late for it to matter. Still, it was the first tally of the year for the 21-year-old, who has added five assists over 11 outings. McTavish has added 16 shots on net, 12 PIM, eight hits, seven blocked shots and a minus-2 rating this season. Despite his scoring struggles, he's spent a majority of the campaign in a top-six role.

  • Ducks' Lukas Dostal: Falters versus Blackhawks

Dostal allowed four goals on 29 shots in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

Two of the goals came on Chicago power plays, so this wasn't entirely Dostal's fault. This outing broke his streak of five straight games allowing two or fewer goals. The 24-year-old is now at a 4-3-2 record with a 2.22 GAA and a .937 save percentage through nine starts. He looks like the real deal between the pipes, though wins are still going to be tough to come by as this young Anaheim roster finds its feet in the NHL. The Ducks continue their homestand against the Canucks on Tuesday.

  • Ducks' Lukas Dostal: Tending twine Sunday

Dostal will be between the pipes for Sunday's home contest versus Chicago, according to Derek Lee of The Hockey News.

Dostal will make his ninth start of the 2024-25 campaign -- the 24-year-old has been outstanding early on, as he's posted a 4-2-2 record, .945 save percentage and 1.99 GAA through eight appearances. The Blackhawks are on the second half of a back-to-back, and they're putting up 2.67 goals per game through 12 contests.

  • Ducks' Tristan Luneau: Heads to AHL

Luneau was reassigned by the Ducks on Friday.

Luneau has no points, two PIM, six shots, five hits and nine blocks while averaging 16:33 of ice time across six appearances this year. He's been a healthy scratch in four of Anaheim's past five games, and a move to AHL San Diego would give the 20-year-old an opportunity to play regularly, which would likely be beneficial to his development.

  • Ducks' Ross Johnston: Part of fourth-line rotation

Johnston was scratched in Thursday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Penguins, the sixth time in 10 games he's been in the press box.

At 30 years old, Johnston is not a priority to get in the lineup for the Ducks, who have a number of prospects to acclimate to the NHL. The veteran winger has 13 hits, four blocked shots and seven PIM over his first four appearances of 2024-25. Johnston will compete with Brett Leason and Brock McGinn for a spot on the fourth line as long as he's on the NHL roster.

  • Ducks' Radko Gudas: No points in October

Gudas did not record a point over the Ducks' first 10 games of the season.

Gudas was named the team's captain -- the Ducks' first since Ryan Getzlaf's retirement at the end of 2021-22 -- prior to the season. While Gudas hasn't recorded a point, he's performed as expected with 35 hits, 32 blocked shots and four PIM over 10 contests. The Butcher continues to see bottom-four minutes on defense, but he should be capable of 200-plus hits, 150-plus blocks, 80-plus PIM and 15-20 points over the course of a full season.

  • Ducks' Trevor Zegras: Ends drough with assist

Zegras notched an assist, three shots on goal and two blocked shots in Thursday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Penguins.

Zegras had gone six games without a point before he set up an Alex Killorn tally in the first period. The slump has cost Zegras his top-six role -- he's been under 15 minutes of ice time in each of the last two games while playing alongside Killorn and Cutter Gauthier on the third line. Zegras is off to another slow start in 2024-25 with three points, 21 shots on net, seven blocked shots and a minus-4 rating through 10 appearances. While he still has talent, he is in real danger of getting lapped by younger prospects in the Ducks' system, which does nothing to squash trade rumors that have circled him in recent months.

  • Ducks' Lukas Dostal: Suffers defeat Thursday

Dostal allowed two goals on 46 shots, both to Sidney Crosby, in a 2-1 loss against Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Dostal was able to get his team the extra point by going into overtime but was beaten by Crosby in the extra session. Despite the loss, it was a solid performance by the 24-year-old netminder, who still posted a phenomenal .957 save percentage. On the year, Dostal is 4-2-2 with a 1.99 GAA and .945 save percentage -- numbers that should see him maintain the No. 1 job even once John Gibson (abdomen) is cleared to return.

  • Ducks' Alex Killorn: Bends twine in loss

Killorn scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 2-1 defeat to the Penguins.

After going pointless in his first five games, Killorn appears to be rediscovering his scoring touch with three points in his last five outings. Despite opening the scoring versus Pittsburgh, the veteran forward's tally wasn't enough to spur the Ducks on to victory. While Killorn's days of being a 60-point producer are likely behind him, he could still challenge for the 40-point threshold after coming up just four points shy of that mark last year.

  • Ducks' Lukas Dostal: Starting versus Penguins

Dostal will guard the road goal in Thursday's game versus the Penguins, Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports.

Dostal made 40 saves in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Islanders. The Penguins have been inconsistent with 33 goals scored over 11 games, though they've also given up 47 tallies, which means the Ducks' offense could offer strong support for Dostal.
