The points were his first this season. Crosby is playing with Drew O'Connor and Anthony Beauvillier, a mediocre duo at best. Crosby remains an elite fantasy option but watch the line selections carefully. It'd be nice to see him paired up with someone who could take the pressure off a little.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Inks two-year extension
Crosby signed a two-year, $17.4 million contract extension with Pittsburgh on Monday.
Crosby is heading into the final season of the 12-year, $104.4 million deal that he signed back in June 2012, and his extension will keep him around in Pittsburgh for two additional seasons. The 37-year-old was thought to be in pursuit of a pay raise for his next deal, but his extension will contain the same $8.7 million annual average value as his previous 12-year contract, allowing the notoriously superstitious Crosby to continue matching his cap hit with his iconic No. 87 for two more years. After reaching the 90-point threshold both of the past two seasons, Crosby's deal represents a significant discount that should provide the Penguins with plenty of cap flexibility into the future.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Two-point night in finale
Crosby registered a pair of helpers in a 5-4 defeat to the Islanders in the Penguins's season finale Wednesday.
Crosby averaged over a point-per-game for the 19th consecutive season, including scoring 40-plus goals for the first time since 2016-17. While the world-class center won't be playing in the postseason this year, he'll likely have a busy offseason that could include signing an extension with the Penguins once he officially enters the last season of his current contract July 1.

Crosby set up Drew O'Connor's game-tying goal midway through the third period, forcing overtime in an eventual 3-2 defeat. The 36-year-old center has points in eight of his last nine contests -- he's totaled seven goals and 10 assists in that span. Crosby's up to 86 points (40 goals, 46 assists) through 78 appearances this year, which makes this campaign the 13th time in his career that he's surpassed the 80-point threshold.

The Penguins were staring at a 3-1 deficit heading into the third period in a game they could ill afford to lose, but Crosby sparked a five-goal rally by tapping home the puck from in close early in the final frame. The 36-year-old is trying to drag Pittsburgh into the playoffs, scoring six goals and 15 points over the last six games, and Crosby sits one goal short of his third career 40-goal campaign. Only four other players in NHL history -- Johnny Bucyk, Brendan Shanahan, Alex Ovechkin and Gordie Howe -- have potted 40 at an older age.

It was a record-setting night for Crosby. With his three points in the contest, Crosby tied the great Wayne Gretzky for 19 straight seasons of averaging at least a point per game. Crosby scored two markers for his 36th and 37th goals on the year and added a primary assist on Bryan Rust's opening goal. The 36-year-old Crosby has 13 points across his last five games, scoring four goals and adding nine assists over that span.

It was yet another milestone for the Kid. Crosby reached 1,580 points (585 goals, 995 assists) Thursday, passing Ray Bourque (1,579) for 11th most in NHL history. He is 10 points behind Phil Esposito (1,590), who sits in 10th. Crosby is on a three-game, nine-point scoring streak that includes seven assists. And he has points in seven of his last eight games (three goals, 11 assists). At his current rate and with 10 games remaining, Crosby may be able to pass Esposito this season.

The 36-year-old superstar helped set up Bryan Rust late in the second period for what proved to be the game-winner. He then collected the rest of his points when Carolina's net stood empty in the final two minutes of the third. Crosby has erupted for seven points over the last two games, and Tuesday's tally was his 35th of the season, marking the eighth time in his Hall of Fame career he's reached that plateau, but the first since 2018-19.
