  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Sustains injury in traffic accident

Heineman suffered an upper-body injury in a traffic accident as a pedestrian Monday and will be sidelined for 3-4 weeks, the team announced Tuesday. Heineman hadn't registered a point in his last four outings, but he's been productive this season in a depth role with 10 goals and 17 points through 41 appearances. If Alex Newhook (illness) isn't ready to go Tuesday versus Utah, Montreal may be forced to roll with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Michael Pezzetta figures to see consistent playing time while Heineman is on the shelf.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Extends productive run

Heineman scored a power-play goal in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks. Heineman has cracked the scoresheet in seven of his last eight outings, including three straight games. The 23-year-old forward has tallied 10 points (five goals, five helpers) of his 17 points this season across his past 15 contests.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Scores in win

Heineman scored a goal on one shot and had five hits in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Golden Knights. Heineman scored the game-tying goal early in the third period, continuing the fourth line's resurgence during Montreal's 6-1-0 stretch. The tally was his ninth of the season and gave him eight points over the last nine outings. In addition to the traditional duties of a fourth liner -- Heineman is second on the team with 87 hits -- he's been an offensive force, scoring on 23.7 percent of his shots.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Slides assist in loss

Heineman had an assist, one shot on net and two hits in Monday's 5-4 loss to Columbus. Heineman is part of resurgent fourth line that contributed six goals in the last four games. He hit Jake Evans in stride to set up the tally that tied the game at 3-3 in the second period. Heineman has points (two goals, three assists) in four straight games.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: One of each in win

Heineman scored a goal on two shots, dished an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings. Heineman has four points over his last four games. He scored the opening goal at 7:09 of the first period, his first tally since Dec. 1. The 23-year-old has seven goals, 12 points, 33 shots on net, 72 hits and a minus-3 rating over 31 contests. Heineman's recent success may make him of interest to fantasy managers in deep formats, but he doesn't have enough of a track record or a large enough role for widespread appeal.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Tallies in loss Sunday

Heineman scored a goal in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Bruins. Heineman has made an impact with three goals, six shots on net and 17 hits over his last five games. The 23-year-old forward is playing on the fourth line, so it's tough to expect him to continue his surge on offense. Overall, he's at six goals, two helpers, 29 shots, 59 hits and a minus-4 rating through 23 appearances this season.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Scores in win

Heineman scored a goal on one shot and delivered two hits in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win over Columbus. Heineman blew past Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson and slipped the puck under Elvis Merzlikins for the Canadiens' third goal. It was the second tally in three games for the fourth-line forward, who also pulls shifts on the team's second power-play unit. He's up to five goals for the season.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Tallies in Monday's win

Heineman scored a goal on four shots and added two hits in Monday's 7-5 win over the Sabres. Heineman has earned three points over five contests in November, surpassing his output from all of October. The 22-year-old winger has mostly played on the fourth line this season, but he's been a fairly regular presence in the lineup for the first time in his career. He has three goals, two assists, 20 shots on net, 34 hits, six PIM and a minus-4 rating over 15 outings.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Gets top-line minutes Thursday

Heineman skated on the first line in Thursday's 6-3 loss to Washington. He logged one shot, one block and one hit over 11:29 TOI. The TOI certainly doesn't suggest first-line minutes, but the Canadiens had six power plays, and Heineman doesn't serve on the man-advantage units. Montreal head coach Martin St. Louis is attempting to make the team less top-heavy, putting Kirby Dach and Juraj Slafkovsky, two wingers that spent time with the top line, on the second line. Heineman scored a couple of goals earlier this season while skating on the fourth line. It's unclear how long St. Louis will run with this experiment.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Buries first NHL goal

Heineman scored a power-play goal while adding two shots, one block and one hit in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Senators. Heineman worked his way into an open area in the slot and buried a feed for his first NHL goal with one second left on a power play. He also picked up his second minor penalty in as many games. Heineman returned to duty on the fourth line after being a healthy scratch in Thursday's loss to Boston.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Cracks opening roster

Heineman has made Montreal's roster, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports. Heineman, who was acquired from Calgary as part of the Tyler Toffoli trade in February of 2022, will crack his first Opening Night roster in the NHL. He played 48 games at AHL Laval last season, posting 15 goals on 113 shots (13.3 shooting percentage) and 14 assists. Heineman is expected to open at wing on the fourth line.

  • Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Shipped back to AHL

Heineman was reassigned to AHL Laval on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Heineman was scratched Thursday versus the Sharks with Rafael Harvey-Pinard (lower body) back in action. Over his first four NHL appearances, Heineman had four hits, one blocked shots and a plus-2 rating without recording a point or a shot on goal.
