Helenius is expected to be sent down to AHL Ontario on Wednesday, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.
Helenius appears to be the odd man out in Los Angeles, as the team needs a roster spot to activate Drew Doughty (ankle) off long-term injured reserve. In his 27 appearances this season, the 22-year-old Helenius has generated one goal, two assists and 16 shots while dishing out 80 hits. Helenius' demotion could create more opportunities for Akil Thomas -- though the Kings may also decide to deploy seven blueliners instead.

Kings' Samuel Helenius: Sent down to minors
Rotowire
Helenius was reassigned to AHL Ontario on Tuesday.
Helenius has been a healthy scratch for his last four NHL games, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him heading down to the minors to get some game action. The 22-year-old center could still be brought up ahead of Thursday's matchup with Vancouver -- though he likely will be hard-pressed to break into the lineup even if he is on the roster.

Kings' Samuel Helenius: Sits out Saturday
Rotowire
Helenius was scratched for Saturday's 2-1 win over the Lightning.
Helenius had played in the prior 15 games, averaging 8:14 of ice time in that span while failing to record a point. If the Kings decide they don't need to roster 14 forwards, Helenius could be a player they consider reassigning to AHL Ontario now the team's forward group is fully healthy. The 22-year-old has just two assists and 70 hits through 21 appearances this season.

Rotowire
Helenius was called up from AHL Ontario on Monday.
It seems Helenius' demotion to the minors Sunday was a paper transaction with the forward now officially back on the NHL roster. Looking ahead to Wednesday's matchup with the Sabres, it will likely come down to Helenius or Akil Thomas for the last spot on the fourth line. In his four appearances for the Kings, the 21-year-old Helenius has garnered two assists, four shots on goal and 12 hits.

Kings' Samuel Helenius: Earns helper in NHL debut
Rotowire
Helenius logged an assist, three shots on goal, two hits and two PIM in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Saturday was Helenius' NHL debut, and he didn't look out of place in a bottom-six role. He helped out on Warren Foegele's go-ahead goal in the second period and also won all three of his faceoffs. Helenius took the spot of Tanner Jeannot (suspension) in the lineup Saturday, and the former likely has a chance to audition for a longer stay in the NHL while the latter has two games left to serve on his ban.
