Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Picks up assist in win
Werenski notched an assist, three blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Maple Leafs.
Werenski was held off the scoresheet in the previous two contests. That's been a rare occurrence this season -- Werenski has just three multi-game droughts. The star defenseman is second to Cale Makar in goals (15) and points (52) among blueliners, and Werenski leads defensemen with 181 shots on net.

Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Carries offense in shootout win
Werenski scored two goals in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Flyers.
Both tallies were impressive, and both of them tied the score for the Blue Jackets. Werenski stole the puck at his own blue line midway through the first period and beat Ivan Fedotov on a breakaway before ripping home a one-timer on a slick feed from Kirill Marchenko late in the third. The 27-year-old Werenski has stayed healthy this season and is having a breakout campaign under new head coach Dean Evason, and he seems to be getting stronger. Werenski has produced six multi-point performances in the last 10 games, a stretch in which he's erupted for four goals and 18 points with 54 shots on net, 17 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating.

Werenski has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in a five-game point streak, and his 48 points put him in second in the NHL, one point behind Cale Makar in scoring by defensemen. Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: On four-game point streak
Werenski provided a power-play assist in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Penguins.
Werenski helped out on Adam Fantilli's game-tying tally late in the third period. During his four-game point streak, Werenski has a goal and six assists while adding a plus-3 rating, 27 shots on net and nine blocked shots. The 27-year-old is showing just how good he can be when he has good health on his side. Overall, Werenski is at 12 goals, 34 helpers, 161 shots on net, 71 blocked shots and a plus-6 rating through 41 appearances. He's 11 points away from matching his career-best total from last season, and if his second half of 2024-25 is as good as the first, he could be up for Norris Trophy consideration.

Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Home scoring streak at 15 games
Werenski picked up two assists Saturday in a 6-4 win over the Blues.
Werenski extended his home point streak to 15 games (nine goals, 21 assists). His stretch pass to Adam Fantilli early in the third was flat-out filthy -- he fired it from behind his own net and laid a perfect bounce off the right-wing boards to Fantilli, who was at the St. Louis blue line. Werenski sits second in the NHL in scoring from the blue line with 45 points in 40 games and second in goals (12), too. He's having a Norris-caliber season; let's hope voters don't overlook him because of his jersey.

Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Huge workload in shootout win
Werenski produced a power-play assist while adding a game-high 11 shots on net in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Hurricanes.
The veteran blueliner saw an incredible 30:07 of ice time, and that was on a night when coach Dean Evason elected to go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Werenski scored a career-high 57 points (11 goals, 46 assists) in 2023-24 over 70 games, but he's on pace to shatter that mark in 2024-25. Through 38 appearances, he's already amassed 11 goals and 40 points, and his 145 shots on net puts him fifth in the NHL and first among all defenseman, behind only David Pastrnak (156), Brady Tkachuk (150), Nathan MacKinnon (148) and Jack Hughes (147). With the Blue Jackets surprisingly within striking distance of a playoff spot, Werenski is positioning himself to garner Norris Trophy votes at the end of the season.

Werenski recorded four assists, including three on the power play, in Friday's 6-2 win over the Bruins.
Werenski didn't find the back of the net, but that didn't prevent him from being one of the standout performers in this thumping win. He has notched seven assists over his last two games, and he's been nothing short of outstanding over the past few weeks. He's up to 12 assists and three goals in 14 December appearances.

Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Managing leg injury
Werenski's status for Monday's game against the Canadiens is in question due to a left leg injury, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Werenski said after Monday's morning skate that his injured left leg is "feeling OK," but a decision on his status against Montreal won't come until closer to puck drop. Following Monday's game, the Blue Jackets will have three days off due to the league's Christmas break, so he could sit against Montreal to give himself extra time to rest.
