Top Esa Lindell News

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: In lineup Wednesday

Lindell (rest) will return to the lineup Wednesday versus the Predators, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Lindell rested two games to prepare for the playoffs. He'll be back in a top-four role. The 30-year-old defenseman will play a key shutdown role in the first round versus the Avalanche, but don't be surprised if his minutes are managed in Wednesday's regular-season finale.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Sitting again against Wings

Lindell (rest) will not be an option for Monday's game versus Detroit, Sean Shapiro of DLLS Sports reports.

Officially, Lindell is being rested, but the fact that he is missing a second straight game would seem to indicate he is dealing with something. While the 30-year-old Finn is mired in a 10-game goal drought, he has chipped in four helpers over that stretch. At this point, Lindell should probably be considered questionable heading into Wednesday's matchup with Nashville, as the Stars may choose to rest him again in the regular-season finale.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Taking night off

Lindell (rest) won't play Saturday versus Utah.

Lindell has five goals, 26 points, 50 hits and 170 blocks in 79 appearances in 2024-25. According to the Stars, the defenseman will be out for maintenance, but given the time of year, it's reasonable to believe Dallas is simply giving him a night off to rest ahead of the playoffs. Brendan Smith will draw into the lineup because of Lindell's absence.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Picks up helper in overtime loss

Lindell notched an assist and four blocked shots in Tuesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Canucks.

Lindell set up a Mikael Granlund empty-netter before a historic last-minute collapse by the Stars. The assist was Lindell's fourth over the last five contests, a span in which he's added 12 blocks and a plus-3 rating. The 30-year-old shutdown blueliner has 26 points, 94 shots on net, 166 blocked shots, 49 hits and a plus-36 rating over 78 appearances. This matches his highest point total in any of the last six years, equaling his output from 82 games a year ago.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Dishes pair of assists Monday

Lindell notched two assists in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kraken.

Lindell snapped a four-game skid with his pair of helpers. He set up Wyatt Johnston's go-ahead goal at 3:19 of the first period as well as a Mikael Granlund empty-netter in the third. Lindell is up to 24 points, 89 shots on net, 155 blocked shots, 45 hits and a plus-34 rating across 74 appearances this season. He's finished between 23 and 26 points in four of the previous five campaigns, so this is a pretty typical level of offense for the Finnish blueliner, though he still has a couple of weeks to add to his totals.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Puts away goal in overtime win

Lindell scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Flyers.

Lindell scored for the first time since Jan. 25 versus the Blues, putting the Stars up 2-0 at 8:59 of the first period. The defenseman has two points and a plus-9 rating across 10 outings in March as he continues to handle a shutdown role in the absence of Miro Heiskanen (knee). Lindell is up to five tallies, 22 points, 88 shots on net, 145 blocked shots and a plus-32 rating through 69 contests this season.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Snags assist in overtime loss

Lindell produced an assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Sunday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Avalanche.

Lindell ended a six-game point drought with his helper on Matt Duchene's game-tying goal in the third period. The 30-year-old Lindell has continued to see heavy minutes in the absence of Miro Heiskanen (knee), though Lindell often gets more defensive assignments. He's up to 21 points, 85 shots on net, 141 blocked shots and a plus-31 rating over 66 appearances in a top-four role.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Collects helper in Friday's win

Lindell recorded an assist, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 6-2 win over the Kings.

Lindell earned his first point in four games since the end of the 4 Nations Face-Off. The 30-year-old blueliner has resumed a top-four role with the Stars after his time with Team Finland. Lindell has earned a goal and five assists over his last 11 outings as he takes on a larger role in the absence on Miro Heiskanen (knee). Lindell is at 20 points, 75 shots on net,130 blocked shots and a plus-23 rating across 59 appearances this season. His career-high 32-point campaign from 2018-19 is likely out of reach, but Lindell continues to be a steady depth blueliner for fantasy purposes.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Goal gets Finland on board

Lindell scored a goal in Finland's 5-3 loss to Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off on Monday.

He scored with a shot from the far side of the right circle at 13:19 of the third period to get Finland on the board. Lindell isn't known for his offense, even if he had five points (one goal, four assists) in seven games heading into the tournament. Overall, he has four goals and 15 assists in 55 NHL games this season.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Notches assist in win

Lindell produced an assist and four blocked shots in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Sharks.

Lindell has a helper in back-to-back contests and five points over his last seven games. The defenseman set up a Thomas Harley tally in the third period of Saturday's victory. Lindell is up to 19 points, a plus-22 rating, 70 shots on net, 122 blocked shots and 36 hits through 55 appearances. He's on pace to surpass the 26 points he had over 82 regular-season outings last year -- if he does so, it would be his most production campaign since his career year of 32 points in 2018-19.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Bags apple in shootout loss

Lindell notched an assist in Friday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Kings.

Lindell has a goal and three assists over his last six outings, going plus-7 in that span. The 30-year-old is taking on some heavier defensive minutes that opened up with Miro Heiskanen (knee) exiting the lineup. Lindell is up to 18 points, 69 shots on net, 118 blocked shots and a plus-21 rating through 54 contests. Given his category coverage, Lindell may be able to help some fantasy managers in deeper formats until Heiskanen is back.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Hands out helper in overtime win

Lindell provided an assist, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Golden Knights.

Lindell has a point in each of the last two contests (one goal, one assist). The 30-year-old blueliner could be in line for a larger role if Miro Heiskanen (lower body) misses time after exiting Tuesday's game. Lindell is up to 16 points, 107 blocked shots, 65 shots on net and a plus-16 rating over 50 appearances. He doesn't have a ton of scoring upside, but he can help in fantasy formats that reward his steady defensive play.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Nets rare power-play goal

Lindell scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Blues.

Lindell was on the ice near the end of a power play and cashed in for the Stars' second goal. The tally ended an eight-game point drought for the defenseman, and it was his first contribution with the man advantage since the 2021-22 campaign. Lindell plays more of a shutdown role and is unlikely to challenge Miro Heiskanen or Thomas Harley for power-play time moving forward. This season, Lindell is at four goals, 11 assists, 65 shots on net, 104 blocked shots, 34 hits and a plus-14 rating over 49 appearances.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Collects helper

Lindell logged an assist and two blocked shots in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Rangers.

Lindell has five points over 17 games since the start of December. As usual, he's not adding much on offense while serving as a shutdown defender in a top-four role. He's produced three goals, 10 helpers, 57 shots on net, 72 blocked shots, 37 hits and a plus-12 rating through 39 appearances this season, a pace nearly identical to last year when he had 26 points while playing in all 82 regular-season contests.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Long-range empty-netter seals win

Lindell scored an empty-net goal on three shots and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Sabres.

Lindell finished the game with a long-range empty-netter for his first point in seven contests. The defenseman was held to zero hits and blocked shots for the second game in a row -- it was just the third time he's posted goose eggs in both categories in the same game this year. Despite the recent lack of physical play, that's often where Lindell shines. He has three goals, nine assists, 57 shots on net, 30 hits, 68 blocked shots and a plus-10 rating over 36 appearances.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Pockets assist in win

Lindell notched an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Flames.

Lindell has two helpers over his last five contests. The 30-year-old defenseman continues to see top-four minutes for the Stars, though mainly in a defensive capacity since he doesn't get much, if any, power-play time. He's now at 10 points, 42 shots on net, 23 hits, 54 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating over 27 outings this season. Lindell's got decent production in non-scoring areas, making him an option in deeper fantasy formats.

  • Stars' Esa Lindell: Logs helper Sunday

Lindell produced an assist, four shots on goal and three blocked shots in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Jets.

Lindell set up Roope Hintz for an empty-netter to close out this win. The assist ended a five-game point drought for Lindell, which was his longest slump since he opened the season with no points over the first eight contests. Offense comes and goes for the 30-year-old blueliner, who primarily features in a shutdown role. He has nine points, 35 shots on net, 19 hits, 45 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating through 23 outings this season. Due to his non-scoring production, Lindell is a fringe option in fantasy, and a hot stretch on offense can make him a decent streaming option.
