  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Practices in full

Thomas (calf) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Thomas appears to be nearing a return to the field after missing Carolina's first five games of the season due to a calf issue, but the 28-year-old must still be activated to the team's active roster in order to suit up Sunday. Head coach Dave Canales told reporters Wednesday that Thomas could "absolutely" be back for the Panthers' Week 6 matchup against the Falcons if he proves he's moved past his calf injury during practice this week, per Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

  • Panthers' Dane Jackson: Full go Wednesday

Jackson (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Jackson logged a full practice session for the first time since being designated to return from injured reserve Oct. 2. It appears the first-year Panther is nearing a return to the field, but he must be activated to Carolina's active roster in order to suit up in the team's Week 6 matchup against the Falcons.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Begins week with DNP

    Jewell (hamstring/groin) didn't practice Wednesday.

Jewell missed the Panthers' Week 5 loss to the Bears after sustaining hamstring and groin injuries the week prior, and Wednesday's DNP confirms he's still dealing with these issues. The 29-year-old's participation Thursday and Friday will provide a better indication of his potential availability for Week 6, when the Panthers host the Falcons.

  • Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Sits out Wednesday

Tremble (concussion) didn't take part in Wednesday's practice, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Tremble endured a helmet-to-helmet hit from Bears safety Jaquan Brisker this past Sunday, which resulted in the tight end entering the concussion protocol. With just two more chances to mix into drills this week, he could be hard-pressed to put himself in a position to play Sunday against the Falcons. Meanwhile, fellow TE Ian Thomas (calf), who remains on injured reserve, practiced fully Wednesday and "absolutely" has a chance to return this weekend, as coach Dave Canales told Steve Reed of the Associated Press. If that comes to pass, the Panthers may have to roll with Thomas, Ja'Tavion Sanders and Feleipe Franks at the position Week 6.

  • Panthers' Xavier Legette: Logs full practice Wednesday

Legette (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Legette made an early departure from this past Sunday's loss in Chicago due to a shoulder injury, and he underwent tests on the AC joint in question early this week. Those tests must have turned up nothing too serious considering he handled all on-field work Wednesday. The same can't be said for fellow wide receiver Diontae Johnson (ankle), who remained limited for a third straight practice going back to last week.

  • Panthers' Diontae Johnson: Limited by ankle issue

Johnson (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Johnson now has logged three consecutive capped sessions going back to last week, but he was able to suit up for this past Sunday's loss at Chicago and handle a typical 80 percent snap share on his way to three catches (on six targets) for 23 yards. Meanwhile, Xavier Legette (shoulder) practiced in full Wednesday, meaning the Panthers may have most of their wide receivers aside from Adam Thielen (hamstring) available Week 6 against the Falcons.

  • Panthers' Xavier Legette: Practicing Wednesday

Legette (shoulder) is on the field for the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Legette was forced out of Carolina's loss to the Bears in Week 5 early due to a shoulder issue, but he's said he doesn't expect to miss time. The rookie first-round pick also underwent imaging Monday to test his AC joint, but Legette looks to have been cleared of anything significant. The Panthers' first official Week 6 practice report will be issued later Wednesday, when it will be known to what extent Legette participated.

  • Panthers' DeShawn Williams: Joins active roster

Williams was signed to the Panthers' active roster from the practice squad Tuesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Williams has appeared in two games with Carolina this season, recording two total tackles (one solo). He'll provide the team with an additional depth option on the defensive line against the Falcons on Sunday.

  • Panthers' Thomas Incoom: Signed to active roster

The Panthers signed Incoom from the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.

Incoom joined the Panthers' practice squad after he was waived by the Broncos at the end of training camp. He was elevated to the active roster for Week 3 and 4, and over that span he registered three solo tackles while splitting his time between defense and special teams. Incoom gives the Panthers some depth at linebacker following the loss of Shaq Thompson, who suffered a season-ending Achilles tear during Carolina's Week 4 loss to Cincinnati.

  • Panthers' Cade Mays: Back with Carolina

Carolina signed Mays off the Giants' practice squad to the active roster Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Mays is back with the Panthers, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He appeared in 27 games (including seven starts) in his two years in Carolina, but he was waived at the end of training camp after failing to make the 53-man roster. Bringing Mays back gives the Panthers depth in the interior offensive line following the loss of Austin Corbett (biceps) for the rest of the regular season.

  • Panthers' Bryce Young: Fares well in garbage time

Young completed four of seven pass attempts for 58 yards and took one carry for eight yards in Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Bears.

With the Panthers trailing by 26 points late in the fourth quarter, head coach Dave Canales turned the offense over to Young, who made his first appearance since losing his starting role to veteran Andy Dalton in Week 3. Though the Bears' big lead may have resulted in him facing vanilla defensive schemes, Young drew praise for his brief cameo, with Canales saying the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft did a "fantastic job," per David Newton of ESPN.com. Canales relayed that Dalton will draw a fourth straight start in Week 6 against the Falcons, but given the Panthers' investment in him, Young should get another opportunity to start at some point this season.
