Gilman (knee) is doubtful for Sunday's matchup against Carolina.
Gilman popped up on the injury report earlier this week after playing 58 of the Chargers' 60 snaps and logging four tackles (three solo) in the team's 22-10 win against the Raiders. It now looks like the safety may not see the field at all in the team's Week 2 matchup, but Sunday morning will be the true teller.

Chargers' Alohi Gilman: Doesn't practice Thursday
Gilman (knee) did not participate in Thursday's practice session.
Gilman has now logged back-to-back DNP's to start the week, and he is in jeopardy of missing Sunday's game against the Panthers unless he's able to practice in some capacity Friday. The 2020 sixth-round pick recorded four tackles (three solo) and played 68 snaps (58 on defense, 10 on special teams) in the Chargers' Week 1 win over the Raiders.

Gilman played 58 of the Chargers' 60 snaps during Sunday's 22-10 win over the Raiders, finishing with four tackles (three solo). He appears to have tweaked his knee during the contest, and the 2020 sixth-round pick's practice participation Thursday and Friday will offer insight into his availability for Week 2 against the Panthers.

Chargers' Alohi Gilman: Strikes new deal with LAC
Gilman and the Chargers agreed on a two-year, $11 million contract Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Gilman stepped into a starting role in the Chargers' secondary in 2023, recording a career-high 73 tackles, 10 pass defenses two interceptions while also forcing three fumbles and recovering two fumbles over 14 games. He has now been rewarded with a new deal, and Gilman will operate opposite Derwin James again in 2024.

Chargers' Alohi Gilman: Emerges as clear starter in 2023
Gilman registered 73 tackles (49 solo), 10 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two interceptions in 14 games with the Chargers during the 2023 season.
The starting safety spot alongside standout Derwin James has proven to be quite lucrative in past years, with Adrian Phillips and Rayshawn Jenkins getting favorable contracts from other teams after stints in the Los Angeles secondary. It's possible Gilman, who finally earned a starting spot in his fourth season in the NFL, could be the next in that unheralded lineage after the 26-year-old broke out with a 73-tackle season in 2024. Gilman held off 2022 third-round pick JT Woods for a starting role coming out of the preseason and never relinquished his spot on the depth chart, despite missing a few games due to injury early in the season. Gilman will join a host of Chargers starters entering the offseason as unrestricted free agents, and it's unclear how the new regime will prioritize retaining those players in the midst of a difficult salary-cap situation.

Gilman intercepted one pass and broke up another in the Chargers' 24-22 loss to the Bills on Saturday.
