  • Colts' Daniel Jones: Won't play this preseason

Jones won't play in the preseason, according to Jonathan Jones of CBSSports.com.

By all accounts, Jones' recovery from the torn right Achilles that he suffered in Week 14 last season has gone well, but the Colts will play it safe with their starting QB. Per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star, Anthony Richardson will start Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots and play the first half, while Riley Leonard will work in the second half, an arrangement that is in line to be reversed in the team's second exhibition tilt against Atlanta.

  • Colts' Daniel Jones: Unlikely to play Thursday

Jones is unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

Boyd adds that Jones will only participate in Tuesday's joint session against New England, and the veteran quarterback may not play any preseason games while in the final stages of his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered in December. Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson will be the Colts quarterbacks for Thursday's exhibition contest, the first opportunity for the duo to compete for the backup role behind Jones.

  • Colts' Daniel Jones: Full throttle in training camp

Jones has not missed a single snap with the first-team offense and has not taken any days off from practice in training camp, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.

Jones tore his Achilles tendon in December of last season, but that hasn't stopped him from being a pull participant in training camp practices despite recently being cleared to take part in team drills. The veteran quarterback was in the midst of a career year before sustaining the severe injury and finished the 2025 regular season having completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while turning 45 carries into 164 yards and five scores across 13 games. Jones is well on track to play in Week 1 against the Ravens on Sunday, Sept. 13.

  • Colts' Daniel Jones: Takes all the first-team reps

Jones (Achilles) took all of the first-team reps during 11-on-11s at Wednesday's practice, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan reports.

Jones declared himself fully healthy for the start of training camp and is now showing that he won't have major limitations. He's well on his way to making the Week 1 start against Baltimore, though there is still some risk that the lengthy rehab process has an impact on his performance/mobility.

  • Colts' Daniel Jones: Deems himself fully healthy

Jones (Achilles) said on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday that he'll be "full go to start training camp" Wednesday.

Jones said he'll be participating in 11-on-11 drills when training camp opens Wednesday, which would suggest he won't begin camp on the active/PUP list. "I'm ready to go," Jones continued. The quarterback suffered a season-ending torn right Achilles in Week 14 last season and is nearly eight months removed from the injury. Jones threw at OTAs during the spring, and his rehab has gone off without a hitch by all accounts.
