Smith will miss his first game of the regular season due to a personal matter, and his next chance to play will be Week 15 against the Broncos on Sunday, Dec. 15. Matt Goncalves is the top candidate to start at right tackle Sunday due to Smith's absence.

Colts' Braden Smith: Good to go for training camp
Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports that Smith (knee) should be ready for the Colts' first practice of training camp Thursday.
Smith underwent surgery in the offseason to fix a knee issue that hampered him throughout the 2023 season. He sat out of the team's offseason workouts, but the 2018 second-round tackle out of Auburn appears to be healthy and ready for the start of training camp.

Colts' Braden Smith: Recovering from knee surgery
Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Wednesday that Smith underwent knee surgery following the 2023 season, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Smith has played a full 16- or 17-game schedule in just one of his six pro seasons and is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he missed seven contests to knee issues. The Colts' starting right tackle has two years left on his four-year, $70 million contract and is set to collect over $11.6 million in salary next season.
