Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Staying in New Orleans
Mathieu (concussion) is in line to rework his deal with the Saints and remain with the team for the 2025 season, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Mathieu's reworked contract will serve to make his cap hit more manageable for New Orleans, potentially by converting some of his $6.5 million base salary into a signing bonus. He's suited up for all 17 regular-season games in three consecutive years with the Saints, though his snap count declined in 2024. Mathieu was forced out of the team's Week 18 finale due to a concussion, but he figures to be a full participant in the start of offseason activities.

Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Not as effective in 2024
In 17 games in 2024, Mathieu recorded 62 tackles (47 solo), two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and seven pass breakups, including three interceptions.
Mathieu finished his third straight season without missing a single game, but he came away with fewer tackles than in both of the seasons prior, and he was a bit less sharp in coverage in the process. However, he led New Orleans' safeties in defensive snaps in 2024 by a wide margin. He'll turn 33 in May.

Mathieu will end the day with two tackles (one solo). Jordan Howden will likely fill in at free safety for the rest of Sunday's game due to Mathieu's injury.

Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Past shoulder issue
Mathieu (forearm) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Mathieu appeared to sustain a shoulder injury in the third quarter of the Saints' Week 13 win over the Rams. However, Wednesday's injury report clarified that the issue is with his forearm. With Mathieu's full participation Wednesday, it appears he's already moved past the injury. The veteran safety is expected to remain a key leader on New Orleans' defense in Sunday's matchup against the Giants.

Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Questionable to return Sunday
Mathieu (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Rams.
Mathieu checked out of the game in the third quarter after making a hard tackle on running back Kyren Williams, according to Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. The safety ultimately went into the medical tent per Johnson and has since returned to the sideline with his shoulder wrapped. In his Mathieu's absence, J.T. Gray and Jordan Howden stand to see an increase in workload at safety.
