  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Won't play against Orlando

Ball (ankle) is out for Wednesday's game versus the Magic. Ball injured his right ankle against Brooklyn on Monday and will remain out Wednesday. KJ Simpson will likely receive increased playing time at point guard in his absence. Ball will have the entire All-Star break to recover before Charlotte returns to action against the Lakers on Feb. 19.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Exits with right ankle injury

Ball won't return to Monday's game against the Nets due to right ankle soreness. He recorded five points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three assists, one rebound and one steal in 10 minutes before exiting. Ball was making his second appearance after he previously missed five straight games with a left ankle sprain, only to exit the game after tweaking the other ankle at some point late in the first quarter. He made a trip to the locker room before the Hornets announced at halftime that he would miss the remainder of the contest. The Hornets will likely provide an update on the extent of Ball's latest ankle-related setback following the game or on Tuesday, but it wouldn't be surprising if Charlotte held him out for its final contest before the All-Star break Wednesday in Orlando to give him extended time to heal. KJ Simpson started at point guard in the second half Monday's contest in Ball's stead.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Available for Monday

Ball (ankle) is available for Monday's game against the Nets. Ball missed the first leg of this back-to-back Sunday against the Pistons, but it's not a surprise to see him back in the lineup for Monday. There's no word of any restrictions, as well. Over his last three appearances, Ball has averaged 18.7 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals on 38.5 percent shooting from the field.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Won't play Sunday

Ball (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Pistons. Ball was a late addition to the injury report and ultimately won't suit up for the first half of Charlotte's back-to-back set. Nick Smith (back) is also out, so KJ Simpson, Seth Curry, Elfrid Payton and Isaiah Wong should all handle increased roles in the backcourt. Ball will likely return to action Monday in Brooklyn and can be considered probable until the team releases an official injury report.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Downgraded to questionable

Ball (ankle) has been downgraded to questionable for Sunday's game against the Pistons. After initially being left off the injury report, Ball is now questionable for Sunday, the first night of a back-to-back set. The point guard will likely miss at least one of the next two games, but it's unclear which one it'll be. When he's sidelined, KJ Simpson, Elfrid Payton and Isaiah Wong would be candidates for increased roles.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Double-doubles in return

Ball recorded 24 points (9-26 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and 10 assists across 36 minutes during Friday's 117-116 win over San Antonio. Ball returned to the lineup after missing the previous five games due to an ankle injury. He moved straight back into the starting lineup, recording his seventh double-double of the season. The fact he logged a team-high 36 minutes would indicate he is over his most recent injury, a good sign for his immediate playing future. As long as he can stay healthy, Ball should continue to facilitate the offense while also leading the way when it comes to shot attempts.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Playing Friday vs. San Antonio

Ball (ankle) is available for Friday's game against the Spurs. Ball has missed the Hornets' last five games due to a left ankle sprain, but he's progressed enough in his recovery to play in Friday's contest. Ball's return to the starting lineup will likely lead to KJ Simpson coming off the bench. Ball averaged 23.4 points, 7.0 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 32.2 minutes per game in the nine games prior to his ankle injury.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Questionable Friday

Ball (ankle) has been listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Spurs. Ball has missed the Hornets' last five games after suffering an ankle sprain in their recent loss to the Lakers. If the star guard can't play against San Antonio, the team could turn to KJ Simpson, Isaiah Wong, Seth Curry, and Nick Smith to help shoulder the load in Charlotte's backcourt.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Progressing in recovery

The Hornets announced Tuesday that Ball (ankle) has progressed to on-court activity, and additional updates on his status will be updated as appropriate. Ball has already been ruled out for Wednesday's contest versus the Bucks, marking his fifth straight absence due to a sprained left ankle. However, it appears that the 23-year-old guard is progressing well in his recovery and could return to action soon. Until Ball is officially cleared to play, Vasilije Micic (ankle) will likely continue to start, as Tre Mann (back) and Brandon Miller (wrist) are out for the season.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Sprains ankle, won't return Monday

Ball won't return to Monday's game against the Lakers due to a sprained left ankle. He recorded seven points (2-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one assist and one steal in nine minutes prior to leaving the contest. After drilling a three-pointer with 8:47 remaining in the second quarter, Ball suffered the injury while backpedaling down the court and inadvertently stepping on the foot of the Lakers' Jarred Vanderbilt. Ball was able to get up but intentionally fouled the Lakers' Austin Reaves so that he could check out of the game, with the Hornets ruling him out soon thereafter. While the severity of the injury presumably won't be known until he undergoes further testing, Ball's long history of ankle issues since being drafted in 2020 makes it more likely than not that he misses time. Vasilije Micic will likely step in as the Hornets' starting point guard if Ball is unable to play in the Hornets' next game Wednesday versus the Nets.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Heading to locker room

Ball went to the locker room after appearing to suffer a leg injury during the second quarter of Monday's game against the Lakers, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports. Ball went down after colliding with Jarred Vanderbilt and went to the locker room to get checked out immediately after. Vasilije Micic and Seth Curry would get more looks in the backcourt if Ball is unable to return.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Team-high 25 points vs. NOLA

Ball contributed 25 points (9-21 FG, 4-13 3Pt, 3-6 FT), five rebounds, seven assists and three steals across 30 minutes during Saturday's 123-92 victory over the Pelicans. Ball returned Saturday from a one-game absence due to a sprained right wrist and led the Hornets in both scoring and assists. He wasn't the most efficient from the field and connected on just 50.0 percent of his free-throw attempts, but Ball will continue to see plenty of volume as Charlotte's clear No. 1 option on offense. Over his last eight outings, Ball has averaged 25.5 points, 7.8 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 rebounds over 35.2 minutes per game.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Cleared to play Saturday

Ball (wrist) is available to play against the Pelicans on Saturday. Ball was held out of Friday's 102-97 loss to the Trail Blazers due to a sprained right wrist, but the injury isn't severe enough for him to miss a second straight game. Over his last seven outings, Ball has averaged 25.6 points, 7.9 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 35.9 minutes per game; however, he's shot just 39.6 percent from the field over that span (including 29.5 percent from three on 11.1 3PA/G).

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Expected to play Saturday

Ball (wrist) is listed as probable for Saturday's game versus the Trail Blazers. Ball is expected to return to action Saturday after missing Charlotte's previous contest due to a right wrist injury. The star guard should reclaim his starting spot from Vasilije Micic if he's upgraded to available.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Iffy against Portland

Ball is listed as questionable for Friday's game versus the Trail Blazers due to a sprained right wrist, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports. Ball is in danger of missing his first contest since Jan. 3 due to a sprained right wrist. If the star guard is ultimately downgraded to out, Vasilije Micic will likely receive increased playing time.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Records season-high three blocks

Ball registered 27 points (11-21 FG, 2-9 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds, nine assists and three blocks across 39 minutes during Wednesday's 117-112 victory over Utah. Ball was one assist shy of recording his third straight double-double in Wednesday's win. While the star guard also tallied a season-high three blocks, he continued to struggle with his outside shot. Across Ball's last five outings, he is converting just 28.8 percent of his 13.2 three-point attempts per contest.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Double-doubles in loss Sunday

Ball racked up 25 points (9-25 FG, 5-17 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, 11 assists, one block and three steals over 40 minutes during Sunday's 120-113 loss to the Suns. Ball might have needed 25 shots to score 25 points, but fantasy managers will gladly overlook the efficiency issues given his production across the board. The star floor general has been limited to just seven games since the beginning of December due to several injuries and postponements, but he's been outstanding when available. Since then, he's averaging 26.3 points, 8.6 assists and 5.6 rebounds per contest.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Will play against Cleveland

Ball (ankle/wrist) is available for Sunday's game against the Cavaliers, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports. A left ankle sprain and right wrist sprain have caused Ball to be sidelined for the Hornets' last three games, but he will make his return Sunday. The fifth-year guard is averaging a career-high 30.1 points per game this season along with 7.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals over 33.7 minutes per contest.
