The rookie second-rounder appeared in 41 regular-season games with New York during the 2024-25 campaign, finishing with averages of 2.0 points and 1.7 assists while shooting 32.9 percent from the field across 7.2 minutes per contest. Kolek continues to see increased minutes for the Knicks, sliding up in the rotation due to multiple injuries across the backcourt. Although Kolek has seen an increase in responsibility, his production has been a little underwhelming, outside of his assist numbers. In four games over the past week, he is averaging 3.0 points and 5.5 assists in 17.5 minutes per contest.
Kolek chipped in two points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt), one rebound, nine assists and one block in 19 minutes during Tuesday's 128-113 win over the Mavericks.
Kolek flashed his playmaking upside, recording a career-high nine assists. That makes a total of 17 assists over the past two games, easily the best stretch of his young career. With a similar style to that of T.J. McConnell, Kolek is an intriguing long-term prospect. The eventual return of Jalen Brunson from an ankle injury will likely see Kolek removed from the rotation. However, he is someone to watch as an efficient backup option, should the opportunity ever present itself.
The Knicks recalled Kolek on Friday ahead of Monday's game against the Kings.
Kolek will be available for Monday's game in Sacramento, giving the Knicks some depth in the backcourt with Jalen Brunson (ankle) out. The 23-year-old guard has played in 29 games for New York this season, averaging 5.1 minutes per contest.
