  • Spurs' Luke Kornet: Signing four-year contract with SAS

Kornet agreed to a four-year, $41 million contract with the Spurs on Monday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

The Spurs needed to bolster their frontcourt depth, and Kornet will likely operate as the backup center behind Victor Wembanyama. Kornet, an eight-year veteran, averaged 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks per game across 73 regular-season outings with the Celtics in 2024-25.

  • Celtics' Luke Kornet: Muted performance in loss

Kornet chipped in five points (2-3 FG, 1-1 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one block over 21 minutes during Friday's 119-81 loss to the Knicks in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Kornet drew the start in place of Kristaps Porzingis, who has been battling an illness for quite a while. Unlike his heroic Game 5, however, Kornet wasn't able to produce an encore performance in the blowout loss. Kornet, who is set to become a free agent, should draw considerable interest this offseason. During the regular season, Kornet appeared in 73 games and averaged 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks in 18.6 minutes.

  • Celtics' Luke Kornet: Starting in Game 6

Kornet is in the starting lineup for Game 6 against the Knicks on Friday.

Kornet was outstanding for Boston in the Game 5 win while finishing with 10 points (5-5 FG), nine rebounds, one assist, seven blocks and one steal in 26 minutes. Given all the struggles Kristaps Porzingis has endured in the series, starting Kornet after he delivered such an impressive stat line in Game 5 makes sense for the Celtics. They'll ride the hot hand for this do-or-die game.

  • Celtics' Luke Kornet: Outstanding in Game 5 victory

Kornet closed Wednesday's 127-102 victory over New York in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with 10 points (5-5 FG), nine rebounds, one assist, seven blocks and one steal in 26 minutes.

Kornet started the second half since Kristaps Porzingis is still dealing with an illness, and he ended up dazzling while also sniffing a triple-double -- he finished just one rebound and three blocks from doing so. Don't be surprised if Kornet receives a bigger role in the rest of the series against New York, and that should translate directly into a marked increase of his fantasy upside.

  • Celtics' Luke Kornet: Has monster Game 5

Kornet chipped in 10 points (5-5 FG), nine rebounds, one assist, seven blocks and one steal in 26 minutes during Wednesday's 127-102 win over the Knicks in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

With Kristaps Porzingis battling through an illness, Boston turned to Kornet for extended action, and Kornet delivered. The 29-year-old swatted a career-high seven shots -- he had five in the third quarter alone -- and fell one rebound shy of a double-double. It's unclear how healthy Porzingis will be for Friday's Game 6, but Kornet may have done enough to earn more minutes after combining for 18 minutes in his previous two appearances.

  • Celtics' Luke Kornet: Increased role Wednesday

Kornet posted six points (3-4 FG), eight rebounds and one block over 18 minutes during Wednesday's 91-90 loss to New York in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Kornet played a handful of extra minutes with Kristaps Porzingis continuing to struggle with an illness. The issue has been bothering Porzingis for more than a month now, meaning Kornet is going to have to stay ready. Both he and Al Horford will need to play better if the Celtics are to turn the series around, starting with Game 3 in New York on Saturday.
