Rangers' Jon Gray: Work three frames in rehab start
Gray (forearm) struck out two and allowed one earned run on six hits and no walks over three innings Monday in a rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
Gray had been scheduled to make his second rehab appearance with Triple-A Round Rock this past weekend, but a rainout nixed those plans. The Rangers instead had him head to the ACL, where he was able to tack an extra inning on to his workload after covering two frames for Round Rock in his first rehab start last Wednesday. Gray is expected move back to the Triple-A club for his next outing this weekend, and he'll likely need to make at least one more start in the minors after that before he garners consideration for a return from the 60-day injured list. The right-hander has been on the shelf all season after fracturing his forearm March 14, when he was struck by a comebacker in a Cactus League outing.

Rangers' Ben Abeldt: Picked in fifth round by Texas
The Rangers have selected Abeldt (elbow) with the 146th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.
Abeldt missed his final season at TCU following internal brace surgery but was one of the best relievers in the country before getting hurt, putting up a 29.5 percent strikeout rate. The 21-year-old could be given a shot to start in pro ball, but as a crossfire lefty, he likely profiles best in the bullpen as a potential late-inning arm.

Rangers' Mason McConnaughey: Stashed by Rangers
The Rangers have selected McConnaughey (elbow) with the 115th overall pick of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.
A 6-foot-3 righty from Nebraska, McConnaughey logged 19 strikeouts in 13.1 innings this spring before needing Tommy John surgery. He throws his fastball in the low 90s with good movement and gets strong reports for his makeup. The Rangers are likely betting on McConnaughey's stuff taking off once he's healthy and getting pro instruction.

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Stumps Astros
Eovaldi (7-3) picked up the win Sunday against Houston, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 7.2 innings. He struck out seven.
Eovaldi has been dominant this season, allowing no more than three runs in any outing. He's stepped up his game even more in July, yielding two runs (one earned) on 12 hits and two walks with 18 strikeouts across three starts. Sunday's appearance marked Eovaldi's first time pitching more than six innings since a month-long stay on the injured list that sidelined him for almost all of June. The 35-year-old has a 1.58 ERA entering the All-Star break, particularly noteworthy considering he hasn't posted an ERA below 3.63 in his career.

Rangers' Evan Carter: Big day in win
Carter went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple, a double and two runs scored during Sunday's 5-1 win over the Astros.
Carter notched his first triple of the season Sunday and tallied his second game with multiple extra-base hits. In his last five starts, Carter is 6-for-21 (.286) with seven RBI and six runs scored. He'll take a .269/.351/.425 slash line into the All-Star break.

Rangers' Adolis Garcia: Keeps mashing
Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 5-1 win over Houston.
Garcia homered for the third time in four games and extended his hit streak to nine games with his solo shot in the third inning off Hunter Brown. During that streak, Garcia is 11-for-39 (.282) with six runs scored and seven RBI. He'll take a .683 OPS into the All-Star break.

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Homers again
Semien went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 5-1 win over the Astros.
Semien went yard for a second straight game, tagging Kaleb Ort for a solo shot in the eighth inning. The second baseman is up to 12 home runs on the season, five of which have come in the last 13 games. Semien is 15-for-51 (.294) with 16 runs scored and 14 RBI during that stretch.

Rangers' Josh Owens: Taken in third round
The Rangers have selected Owens with the 84th overall pick of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.
Owens offers a high fantasy ceiling to dream, thanks to his big tools and projectable 6-foot-3 frame. The lefty-hitting shortstop shows loud raw power in batting practice and has been a steady riser up boards this spring. Owens was a two-way player and multi-sport athlete as an amateur, and his 92-mph fastball will serve him well at shortstop or potentially the outfield. His father Jeremy was a speedster in the minors and independent leagues during the 90s and 2000s and Owens inherited that speed, as he's a plus-plus runner. It's not a given that he'll hit enough to get the most of his physical tools, but Owens makes for a nice mid-round target in dynasty first-year player drafts based on his five-category upside.

Rangers' AJ Russell: Heading to Texas
The Rangers have selected Russell with the 52nd overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.
Russell's fastball and injury history are the most notable aspects of his profile. He could end up with an elite heater thanks to its ideal movement characteristics and low release point. He also never threw more than 30.1 innings in a season at Tennessee due to needing June 2024 surgery to repair his UCL. Russell made it back this year for the Volunteers and threw 25.1 innings across 12 appearances. In addition to his 70-grade fastball, his mid-80s slider is at least an above-average pitch when he's on, while his seldom-used changeup lags behind. Russell pounded the zone as a reliever his freshman year (6.7 BB%), but his injury and rust upon return may have led to elevated walk rates as a sophomore (12.9 BB%) and junior (9.9 BB%). There is clear reliever risk with Russell, but he also has a very high ceiling as a reliever or starting pitcher.

Rangers' Gavin Fien: Heading to Texas
The Rangers have selected Fien with the 12th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.
It's all about power with Fien, who has a strong combination of hitting and power potential with a plus arm. A physical 6-foot-3, 200 pound prep third baseman from California, Fien hits from the right side and possesses plus raw power. He's not overly athletic and should only get bigger and slower into his mid-20s, but the Rangers announced Fien as a shortstop. It's more likely he slides to third base down the road. Fien could develop into a middle-of-the-order run producer in four or five years.

Rangers' Jake Burger: Scratched Sunday
Burger (quadriceps) was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.
Burger was penciled in to bat seventh as the designated hitter after not starting Saturday due to left quad discomfort, but he'll instead remain on the bench for the final game before the All-Star break. Alejandro Osuna will serve as the DH versus Houston righty Hunter Brown.

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Out of Sunday's lineup
Heim is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
Heim had started the previous 16 games and wasn't productive at the plate during that stretch with a .203/.261/.313 slash line. Kyle Higashioka will replace Heim behind the dish Sunday.

Rangers' Jake Burger: Rejoining lineup Sunday
Burger (quadriceps) is batting seventh as the designated hitter Sunday against the Astros.
Burger departed Friday's contest due to quad discomfort and was held out of the lineup Saturday, but he's good to go for the final game before the All-Star break. The 29-year-old is batting .278 with six RBI and six runs through 10 games in July, but he has only a .389 slugging percentage thanks to one double and one homer.

Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Fills in at first base
Duran started at first base and went 0-for-4 in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Astros.
Duran struck out four times and has endured a tough stretch over the last three weeks, going 2-for-24 (.083) across 13 games (29.6 percent strikeout rate). He might normally start at third base against a lefty, but Duran was needed to cover first base for Jake Burger (quadriceps). Duran is batting .130 with a .395 OPS in 38 games for the Rangers.

Rangers' Josh Smith: Starts against lefty
Smith started at third base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Houston.
Smith typically doesn't start against left-handers -- he has just 66 at-bats against them this season -- but Ezequiel Duran was needed to cover first base for Jake Burger (quadriceps). Smith was dropped from his usual leadoff spot to eighth in a rare start against a southpaw, against whom he has a .212/.274/.242 slash line in 2025. The steal was Smith's ninth of the season and first in 29 contests.

Rangers' Sam Haggerty: Flashes speed Saturday
Haggerty went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Astros.
Haggerty made use of his speed after reaching on an error in the first inning. He went from first to third on Marcus Semien's single and then scored on a Framber Valdez wild pitch. Haggerty showed off more speed with a double and a steal of third in the third inning. The utility player is up to nine steals on 11 attempts this year, and he's added three triples as he continues to make an impact with his legs. He's been fine with the bat as well, hitting .254 with a .714 OPS, two home runs, 11 RBI and 25 runs scored across 142 plate appearances.

Rangers' Kyle Higashioka: Forces extras Saturday
Higashioka went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Astros.
Higashioka didn't do much Saturday, but he delivered a game-tying homer in the ninth inning off Josh Hader to force extras. Higashioka has warmed up at the plate in July, going 9-for-27 (.333) with three homers and nine RBI over seven games this month. That's earning him more playing time behind the dish while Jonah Heim has been able to rest his legs more often as the designated hitter. Based on his career performance, this surge is likely to be temporary for Higashioka. He's now at a .235/.290/.358 slash line with four homers, 25 RBI, 15 runs scored and one stolen base through 176 plate appearances this season.

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Lifts 11th homer
Semien went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Astros.
Semien has a pair of multi-hit efforts over his last three games, and he's popped four homers over his last 12 contests. The second baseman helped the Rangers make a late-innings comeback Saturday with his eighth-inning blast to pull them within a run. On the year, he's up to a .239/.317/.371 slash line with 11 homers, 48 RBI, 47 runs scored and seven stolen bases across 95 games.
