Top Guardians News

  • Guardians' Nic Enright: Sent back to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Enright to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

Cleveland summoned Enright from Triple-A to serve as the 27th man for Friday's doubleheader with the White Sox, but his stay with the big club lasted just one day. He appeared out of the bullpen in the second game of the twin bill, striking out three over 1.1 scoreless frames in the Guardians' 5-4 win in 11 innings.

  • Guardians' Paul Sewald: Back to IL with shoulder injury

The Guardians placed Sewald on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to right shoulder strain, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Sewald returned to action for the Guardians on July 5 after he had been shelved since late April due to a right posterior deltoid strain, and now he's back on the IL with another shoulder-related issue. The veteran reliever will be eligible to return July 27, but it's not yet clear what his timeline for a return looks like. Sewald has been limited to only 15.1 innings this season, collecting a 4.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB.

  • Guardians' Riley Nelson: Lands with Cleveland

The Guardians have selected Nelson with the 162nd overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

The 21-year-old's lone season at Vanderbilt was a productive one, as he finished 2025 with eight homers and seven steals while batting .344 in 261 plate appearances. Nelson's 13.7 percent strikeout rate and 13 percent walk rate showed encouraging plate discipline.

  • Guardians' Luke Hill: Taken in fourth round

The Guardians have selected Hill with the 132nd overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Hill slashed .336/.459/.488 with eight home runs, 18 steals and more walks than strikeouts in 63 games this spring for Ole Miss. He might be a bit of a tweener, as he probably can't stick at shortstop and may not hit for enough power to profile as a regular at second or third base.

  • Guardians' Shane Bieber: Resuming rehab assignment Tuesday

Bieber (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Bieber made his first rehab start in the ACL on May 31, but he was pulled off his minor-league assignment a week later after experiencing renewed soreness in his right elbow, which he had surgically repaired April 12, 2024. He was cleared to resume throwing about two weeks later, and after building back up through bullpen sessions and live batting practice sessions, Bieber is ready to return to game action. He's expected to be limited to around two innings and 35 pitches Tuesday and will likely need to complete at least two or three rehab starts after that before the Guardians bring him back from the 60-day injured list.

  • Guardians' Nolan Schubart: Picked late in third round

The Guardians have selected Schubart with the 101st overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Schubart is a power-over-hit prospect who is close to a bat-only prospect. A lefty-hitting, righty-throwing 6-foot-5 slugger from Oklahoma State, Schubart slashed .300/.436/.630 with 19 home runs, a 24.4 percent strikeout rate and 19.2 percent walk rate in 55 games this spring. He hit over .300 with 17 or more homers all three years for the Cowboys while making marginal improvements to his strikeout rate. Schubart's swings and misses too much in the zone, although he makes pretty good swing decisions relative to most sluggers with strikeout issues. He'll likely be limited to first base and designated hitter if he reaches the majors in a few years.

  • Guardians' Will Hynes: Popped by Cleveland

The Guardians have selected Hynes with the 70th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Hynes is a prep righty from Ontario who is listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. He wasn't expected to be drafted this high, but Hynes has been up to 95 mph with his fastball and is advanced at spinning the ball.

  • Guardians' Aaron Walton: Heading to Cleveland

The Guardians have selected Walton with the 66th overall pick in the First-Year Player Draft.

A 6-foot-3, 220-pound outfielder from Arizona, Walton has some power and speed and hits from the right side. He has a chance to stick in center field, which would put less pressure on his hit tool.

  • Guardians' Dean Curley: Snagged by Guardians

The Guardians have selected Curley with the 64th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

A draft-eligible sophomore from Tennessee, Curley is a jack of all trades and master of none. While his plus arm is a weapon, the 6-foot-3, 218-pound Curley doesn't have the quickness or actions to stick at shortstop and was already moving around the infield this year for the Volunteers. He slashed .315/.435/.531 with 14 home runs, eight steals and almost as many walks (45) as strikeouts (47) in 65 games this spring, with scouts giving him close-to-average grades for the three fantasy tools (hit, power, speed). It's possible more offensive impact could be coaxed out of him in pro ball, but the most likely high-end outcome for Curley is that he does enough things well to be an everyday third baseman who accumulates enough counting stats to be viable in fantasy leagues.

  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Nursing sore wrist

The Guardians announced Sunday that DeLauter has been held out of the Triple-A Columbus lineup since Friday due to a right wrist soreness, Tommy Wild of SI.com reports.

According to Wild, DeLauter had been playing through the sore wrist for the past few weeks, but the injury seemingly hasn't hindered him at the plate, as he's slashing .295/.390/.486 with four home runs and a 17:17 BB:K dating back to the start of June. The Guardians plan to evaluate the 23-year-old outfielder over the All-Star break before a determination is made on his next course of action. Assuming DeLauter can quickly move past the injury and return to the Columbus lineup, he should remain on track to make his big-league debut at some point in the second half of the season.

  • Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Logs longest outing, K's up six

Cantillo did not factor in the decision, allowing four runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings while striking out six in the 6-5 win over the White Sox.

Making his third start of the season, Cantillo looked sharp early but ran into trouble in the middle innings. He gave up a solo homer to Austin Slater in the fourth and exited after surrendering another solo shot to Andrew Benintendi in the sixth. The outing marked his longest of the year, and the 25-year-old has shown he can sustain his swing-and-miss stuff over multiple frames, racking up 18 strikeouts across 12.2 innings in his trio of starts.

  • Guardians' Jace LaViolette: Heading to Cleveland

The Guardians have selected LaViolette with the 27th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

LaViolette came into his junior year at Texas A&M with a chance to go 1-1, but he hit .258 with a 25.2 percent strikeout rate after hitting .305 with a 24.3 percent strikeout rate as a sophomore. While LaViolette makes decent swing decisions, he had a 74.7 percent contact rate and whiffed in the zone more than the typical first-rounder. The lefty-hitting 6-foot-6 outfielder moves well for his size, but he's expected to end up in an outfield corner, which will put more pressure on his hit tool. LaViolette showcased his power potential by setting an Aggies record with 21 homers as a freshman and by slashing .305/.449/.726 with 29 homers as a sophomore. His name value and power potential will get him drafted in the first few rounds of dynasty first-year player drafts, but the realistic ceiling is Matt Wallner and the floor is a player who doesn't make enough contact to reach the majors.

  • Guardians' Austin Hedges: Returning to bench Sunday

Hedges is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Bo Naylor will return to the lineup after Hedges had started behind the plate in three of the Guardians' last four games. Though the Guardians have turned the catcher position into more of a timeshare lately, Hedges' playing time should fall by the wayside as soon as Naylor begins to heat back up. Naylor is batting just .174 on the season, but he's gone 5-for-20 with three doubles and a 2:3 BB:K over his last seven games.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Resting Sunday

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Schneemann will receive a breather after he started the first three games of the series in Chicago, including both ends of Friday's doubleheader. With Schneemann on the bench, Angel Martinez will receive a start at second base while Nolan Jones shifts to center field.

  • Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: Homers in win

Manzardo went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 6-2 win over the White Sox.

Manzardo's sixth-inning homer was the game-winning hit, breaking a 2-2 tie. The round-tripper was his 14th of the season. It was a rare highlight for Manzardo (.217 batting average), and his first RBI in 10 contests. He continues to share the DH role with David Fry, and neither one is making a case to claim full-time at-bats.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Experienced cramping

Gaddis experienced a cramp during Friday's outing but stayed in the game, MLB.com reports.

Gaddis was checked out by the staff and remained in the game, picking up a hold along the way. He said there was some soreness Saturday but indicated he was feeling better. With the All-Star break coming up, Gaddis looks like he'll be ready to go when the schedule resumes.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Swipes three bags

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored and three stolen bases in Saturday's 6-2 win over the White Sox.

Ramirez swiped three bases for the second time this season, with the other such performance coming May 12. While he recorded just one hit in the game, the star third baseman has been locked in at the plate lately, slashing .303/.439/.788 with five homers and 10 RBI over his past nine games after a cold stretch to close June and start July. On the season, he's slashing .297/.367/.510 with 18 home runs, 17 doubles, 29 steals and 48 RBI across 91 games.

  • Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Earns fifth win

Bibee (5-9) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against the White Sox. He struck out five.

The right-hander picked up his first win since May 22, with the only damage off him coming on a two-run single by Kyle Teel in the fourth inning. It was an encouraging outing for Bibee, who came into the start with a 5.13 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 40.1 innings across seven starts since the beginning of June. For the season, he now holds a 4.29 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through 109 innings in 19 starts.
