  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Tosses five shutout innings in win

Olson (2-1) earned the win against the Royals on Thursday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five across five scoreless innings.

Olson allowed at least two baserunners in two of the five frames he pitched, but he managed to get out of those innings without yielding a run. The 25-year-old right-hander has won four straight games at Comerica Park dating back to the 2024 regular season, and through his first four starts in 2025 he's posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB across 20 innings. Olson's next start is slated for next week at home against the Padres.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Fades in fifth inning

Olson allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings, taking a no-decision Friday versus the Twins.

Olson was doing fine initially, but the Twins put together a three-run tally in the fifth inning that chased him from the game. The right-hander finished with 90 pitches (48 strikes), and he's failed to complete five innings twice in three starts so far. He's pitched to a 6.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 13:8 K:BB over 15 innings. Getting the walk rate down closer to his career-average mark coming into the season (2.8 BB/9) will go a long way to getting the rest of his numbers in line. Olson's next start is projected to be at Milwaukee next week.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Collects win in quality start

Olson (1-1) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings in a 7-2 victory over the White Sox. He struck out five.

The right-hander had trouble harnessing his control, tossing only 52 of 94 pitches for strikes, but he got plenty of run support and held on long enough to record his first quality start and victory of 2025. Olson has had a bumpy start to his season, posting a 5.06 ERA and 10:5 K:BB through his first 10.2 innings. He's scheduled to make his next outing on the road next weekend in Minnesota.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Mixed results in first start

Olson (0-1) took the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings.

Olson allowed a tolerable six baserunners -- including one on an intentional walk -- in his 4.2 innings, but three of the four hits against him went for extra bases. He entered the fifth frame holding his own in a 2-2 tie, but a two-out, two-run double by Teoscar Hernandez marred Olson's stat line and lined him up to take the loss. The right-hander did manage to notch five strikeouts and get 10 whiffs, so there were some positives to take away despite the defeat. Olson's second start of the campaign is tentatively scheduled to be a considerably softer matchup against the White Sox next weekend.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Concludes spring schedule

Olson allowed two runs on four hits across 5.1 innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He walked two and struck out three.

Olson wrapped up a solid spring slate in which he recorded a 4.30 ERA and 13 strikeouts across 14.2 innings. The righty is in line to serve as Detroit's No. 3 starter this season behind Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty, with his debut likely coming on Saturday against the Dodgers on the road. Olson has posted sub-4.00 ERAs in each of his first two MLB campaigns, though he's a risky play against the loaded Los Angeles lineup.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Looks sharp in spring start

Olson tossed three scoreless innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He allowed one hit and struck out four.

Olson's second spring start was better than his first, when he allowed two solo home runs across two innings of work. The righty has been a nice find for the Tigers, as he posted sub-4.00 ERAs in each of his first two seasons with the team, including a 3.53 ERA in 2024 across a career-high 112.1 innings. Olson isn't flashy, but he should be a steady option as Detroit's No. 3 starter this year behind Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty.
