Mets' Tylor Megill: Available in relief
Megill is available out of the bullpen Sunday against the Reds, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
The right-hander allowed four runs with a 9:2 K:BB over 9.1 frames in the past two turns through the rotation for the Mets, but he'll shift to the bullpen with Paul Blackburn (hand) returning from the injured list Monday in Toronto. Megill could be called upon for a spot start or two down the stretch, but for now he'll operate in a long-relief role.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Quick hook in no-decision
Megill came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Red Sox, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over four-plus innings. He struck out three.
The Mets handed the right-hander a four-run lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Jesse Winker grand slam, but he nearly squandered it in the third. When Megill then gave up a leadoff single to begin the fifth, manager Carlos Mendoza went to his bullpen. Megill hasn't pitched terribly since rejoining the big-league rotation at the end of August, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB in 9.1 innings over two outings, but he's likely headed to the bullpen with Paul Blackburn (hand) on track to return early next week.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Fans six in third win
Megill (3-5) picked up the win in Friday's 5-1 win over the White Sox, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
Making his first big-league start since July 31, Megill got the softest possible opponent in the White Sox, but he took advantage to record his first MLB win since June 16. With Paul Blackburn (hand) sidelined into September and Christian Scott (elbow) just beginning to ramp back up, Megill figures to get at least one more start for the Mets as they try to stay in the wild-card race. The right-hander will take a 4.82 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 61:23 K:BB through 52.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Red Sox.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Officially called up for start
The Mets recalled Megill from Triple-A Syracuse to start Friday's game against the White Sox.
As expected, Megill will fill the rotation spot vacated by Paul Blackburn (hand) and face off against the White Sox. In his last three starts for Syracuse, Megill has a 4.15 ERA with a 21:5 K:BB across 17.1 innings. He's logged a 5.17 ERA in 10 appearances (nine starts) with the Mets in 2024.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Named Friday's starter
Megill will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to start Friday's game against the White Sox, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
With Paul Blackburn set to miss some time due to a hand injury, Megill is now set to come up from the minors to fill the open spot in New York's rotation. The 29-year-old righty owns a 5.17 ERA and 1.43 WHIP through 47 innings in the big leagues, though he will have the benefit of facing the White Sox in his first outing back, the team with the worst scoring offense in the majors.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Could rejoin MLB rotation
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Megill is the favorite to fill the rotation spot vacated by Paul Blackburn (hand), Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Blackburn landed on the injured list Sunday due to a bruised hand, creating an opening for Megill to potentially rejoin the big-league rotation. Megill has spent the past few weeks at Triple-A Syracuse, where he has a 3.15 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 54:17 K:BB across 40 innings this season. The right-hander's 5.17 ERA in 10 MLB outings this season is less encouraging, however. If called up, Megill would tentatively line up to make a start Thursday in Arizona.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Optioned to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Megill to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
He's clearing out to make room on the roster for trade-deadline acquisition Paul Blackburn, who has officially been added to the roster. Megill will join the rotation at Syracuse to stay stretched out in case he's needed for a start in the majors during the final two months.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Shifting to bullpen
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Megill will move to the bullpen following the acquisition of right-hander Paul Blackburn on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Mendoza suggested the move to a relief role could be temporary, as the Mets want to keep Megill stretched out and may eventually send him back to Triple-A Syracuse to make regular starts. At least for the time being, however, the big right-hander will be the odd man out of the Mets' five-man rotation and will operate as a multi-inning reliever.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Done in by long ball
Megill (2-5) took the loss Saturday as the Mets fell 4-0 to Atlanta, giving up four runs on five hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over six-plus innings. He struck out four.
Making his first big-league start since June 29, Megill looked like he was headed for a pitchers' duel with rookie Spencer Schwellenbach until Marcell Ozuna and Matt Olson clubbed back-to-back solo shots in the fourth inning. Eddie Rosario would then help chase Megill from the game with a third solo blast to lead off the seventh. With Kodai Senga (calf) lost for the season and Christian Scott (elbow) lacking a clear return date, Megill will likely get an extended run in the rotation unless the Mets bring in help at the trade deadline. The right-hander hasn't made a strong case for the job however, posting a 5.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through nine MLB starts this season.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Recalled ahead of start
The Mets recalled Megill from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of his start Saturday versus Atlanta.
With Christian Scott set to miss some time due to an elbow injury, Megill will now return to the majors in order to fill the opening in New York's rotation. The 28-year-old allowed 12 earned runs in 13.1 innings across his last three starts in the big leagues, but he has improved since moving to Triple-A (4.05 ERA in 13.1 IP) and will match up with an Atlanta offense that ranks 21st in MLB with 428 runs scored on the year. Kodai Senga (calf) was placed on the 15-day injured list.
