  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Slugs first homer of '25

Edwards went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Orioles. Edwards connected on his first home run of the 2025 season with a two-run blast off Scott Blewett in the ninth inning. The switch-hitter tallied two extra-base hits Saturday, lifting his season numbers to .289/.354/.346 with 15 extra-base hits, 16 stolen bases, 24 RBI and a clean .700 OPS across 78 games.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Drives in three runs

Edwards went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's victory against Cincinnati. Edwards knocked a two-run double and scored a run during Miami's back-breaking seven-run third inning. He later brought in another run with his sixth-inning single. Edwards has terrorized the Reds in the last two games, going 5-for-9 with three doubles. He has multiple hits in 12 of 31 games since the start of June, going 42-for-126 (.333) in the process. Edwards' slash line is up to .292/.360/.339 with 13 extra-base hits and 37 runs scored through 74 games.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Three more hits Monday

Edwards went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored in Monday's win over the Reds. The switch hitter is locking in as the All-Star break approaches. Edwards has three multi-hit performances in the last five games, and over the last month he's slashing .306/.375/.361 in 26 contests with four steals in six attempts, seven RBI and 16 runs. While he isn't running as much, or as efficiently, as he did in 2024 -- he's gone 15-for-21 on the basepaths through 73 contests this season after a 31-for-35 showing in only 70 games last year -- he remains a useful three-category fantasy asset, and a strong leadoff option for Miami.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Three hits in Tuesday's win

Edwards went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Phillies. The Marlins' leadoff hitter continues to rack up hits in June. Tuesday's effort was Edwards' sixth multi-hit performance in 13 games on the month, a stretch in which he's slashing .404/.466/.462 with five RBI and seven runs. The steal was his 12th of the season, but his first successful attempt since he returned to action from a back issue at the end of May.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Tossed Friday

Edwards was ejected from Friday's game against the Rays after arguing a runner interference call in the third inning, Stephen Strom of Marlins Radio Network reports. Edwards collided with Jonathan Aranda at first base trying to beat out a bunt and was thrown out of the game for his reaction to somewhat questionably being called for interference. Edwards finishes the game 0-for-2. Javier Sanoja will take over for Edwards at second base.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Resting up Wednesday

Edwards is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies. The Marlins are wrapping up their series against Colorado with a day game after a night game, so Edwards is likely just getting a breather after he recently made his return from the injured list. Since being activated Saturday after he was on the shelf for just under two weeks due to a mid-back strain, Edwards has gone 7-for-13 with a double, a walk, two runs and an RBI in four games.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Back from IL

The Marlins reinstated Edwards (back) from the injured list Saturday. Edwards won't be in the lineup for Saturday's game against San Francisco, but he is now fully healthy after sitting out since May 14 with a strained back. After a successful 2024 campaign, the 25-year-old has regressed a bit this year, slashing .263/.337/.292 through 194 plate appearances.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Short rehab stint on tap

Manager Clayton McCullough said Wednesday that Edwards (back) will play in a couple rehab games with Triple-A Jacksonville before rejoining the Marlins "very soon," Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The 25-year-old has been sidelined by a back strain since May 14 and will need a couple games in the minors to get back up to speed before being activated by Miami. After posting a .328/.397/.423 slash line with 31 steals in 70 games last season, Edwards got off to a slower start in 2025 with a .629 OPS and 11 steals through 42 contests.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Placed on IL

Miami moved Edwards to the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left mid-back strain. Edwards sat out both Friday and Saturday due to the back issue, and he's now going to need to rest for at least eight more days before potentially returning to action for Miami. In positive news for the Marlins, the team got another starting middle infielder back, Otto Lopez (ankle) was activated from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. While Edwards is sidelined, Javier Sanoja will likely serve as the team's primary option at shortstop.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Remains out Saturday

Edwards (back) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays. Edwards was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's contest due to back tightness and will take another day off to recover. Manager Clayton McCullough said Saturday that imaging on Edwards' back came back negative, per Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, so the team will have him do some baseball activities to see where he's at. In the meantime, Javier Sanoja will draw another start at shortstop as Ronny Simon mans second base.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Scratched with back tightness

Edwards was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays due to back tightness, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports. Edwards has started all 42 games for the Marlins so far this season, but he'll be forced to the bench Friday due to the back issue. The 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day while Javier Sanoja steps in at shortstop for Miami.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Reaches three times in loss

Edwards went 2-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored during Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. Edwards is without an extra-base hit in his past nine contests, but he's still providing plenty of production atop the lineup with a .400 batting average (16-for-40) and eight walks during a 10-game hit streak. The 25-year-old entered the day tied for fifth in MLB with six stolen bases and also has 11 runs and seven RBI through 85 plate appearances.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Drives in two runs Friday

Edwards went 2-for-4 with one walk, one run and two RBI in Friday's 7-4 loss to the Nationals. Edwards got the scoring started for the Marlins with a two-RBI single in the fifth frame, and he crossed home plate two batters later on Kyle Stowers double. Friday marked Edwards' fourth multi-hit game of the season, and he's started the year slashing .300/.390/.360 with three stolen bases, eight walks and five RBI across 59 plate appearances.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Four hits against Mets

Edwards went 4-for-6 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Mets. The shortstop rolled into the game having gone 4-for-22 (.182) through his first six starts of the season, but Edwards doubled both his hit and steal totals with Wednesday's performance. Base knocks figure to come in bunches for the 25-year-old after he slashed .328/.397/.423 over 303 plate appearances in a breakout 2024, but even as Miami's everyday leadoff hitter, his fantasy value remains capped due to his lack of power and lack of a reliable supporting cast.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Swipes first bag of year

Edwards went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Pirates. The shortstop reached base on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning and promptly stole second, giving Edwards his first steal of 2025. After swiping 31 in only 70 big-league games last season, the 25-year-old set his sights high this year and said this spring he believes he can steal 60. Through the Marlins' first four games, Edwards is batting .200 (3-for-15) with three walks, a double, two runs and two RBI as the club's everyday leadoff hitter.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Appears set in leadoff spot

Edwards hit leadoff in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, going 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. The speedy shortstop is almost certain to be atop the order when Opening Day rolls around after breaking out for a .328/.397/.423 slash line over 303 plate appearances with the Marlins last season. Edwards also swiped 31 bases on 35 attempts over 70 regular-season games, and he's made it his stated goal to take a run at 60 steals in 2025. If your roster or league format can accommodate his lack of power, Edwards offers some strong three-category fantasy appeal.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Shoulder feeling much better

Edwards said earlier this month of his right shoulder that it's the "best it's felt in years" since he began a new throwing program this offseason, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Edwards first suffered a right shoulder impingement back in 2022 and had resigned himself to having to throw through discomfort. However, after working with Marlins director of catching Maxx Garrett on a new throwing program, Edwards said "it's not bothering me to throw at all" anymore. The shoulder issue didn't seem to impact Edwards at the plate in 2024, as he slashed .328/.397/.423 with one homer and 31 stolen bases in 70 games for the Marlins. However, being free and easy in all phases of his game can only help the 25-year-old's prospects heading into 2025.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Resting Saturday

Edwards isn't part of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta. After making seven straight starts, Edwards will get the day off Saturday against Max Fried and Atlanta. Javier Sanoja will slot in at shortstop and bat sixth.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Pilfers bag No. 25

Edwards went 0-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's rout of the Phillies. Even without collecting a hit, Edwards still made a contribution from the leadoff spot in a 10-1 win. The switch-hitting shortstop is up to 25 steals on the season in only 53 big-league games, including three in the last two contests, and he's slashing an impressive .325/.399/.401 with one homer, 19 RBI and 29 runs.

  • Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Goes on IL with sore back

The Marlins placed Edwards on the 10-day injured list due to mild back extensor soreness. Edwards missed the final two games of the Marlins' series against the Cubs over the weekend with the back issue, and though an MRI on Sunday returned negative, the team will err on the side of caution and deactivate him. Before landing on the IL, Edwards was able to take some swings and do some throwing on the field Sunday, so he could have a chance at returning from the IL when first eligible Sept. 3. Vidal Brujan is expected to serve as the Marlins' primary shortstop in place of Edwards, who had slashed .356/.432/.442 with 10 extra-base hits and 22 stolen bases since moving into a full-time role at the beginning of July.
