Walters signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Sunday and was assigned to Double-A Harrisburg.
Walters was cut loose by the White Sox in mid-July and has now latched on with a new organization. The right-hander struggled between the Double-A and Triple-A levels for Chicago and surrendered 30 earned runs across 28 innings, though he also recorded 44 strikeouts.

The White Sox needed to clear a spot on the Triple-A Charlotte roster for Mike Mayers, whom the team acquired from the Royals on Wednesday. After making one appearance in the majors for the Angels a season ago, Walters had pitched exclusively in the minors since joining the White Sox in April. Between stops at Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham, Walters accrued a 9.64 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over 28 innings.

Walters managed to crack the big leagues for the first time last season, even if it was for just one-third of an inning. He spent most of last season in Double-A within the Brewers' farm system, but was promoted to Triple-A upon joining the Angels and will likely return there to begin 2023.

Walters re-signed with the Angels on a minor-league contract Nov. 28.
After clearing waivers earlier in November, Walters elected free agency before linking back up with the Angels a week and a half later. The 25-year-old right-hander reached the big leagues for the first time in 2022, retiring one of the three hitters he faced in his lone appearance. Walters will likely spend the majority of the 2023 campaign at Triple-A Salt Lake.
Walters was designated for assignment by the Angels on Tuesday.
Walters was acquired from the Brewers in early September and was promoted to the big-league roster for the final week of the season. He allowed a hit and a walk in one-third of an inning during his MLB debut but didn't allow a run.

Walters was traded to the Angels in early September, and he posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 5.1 innings over seven relief appearances at Salt Lake. He hasn't yet made his major-league debut but will join the Angels' bullpen after Archie Bradley (forearm) was placed on the injured list Thursday.

Walters was drafted 90th overall by Milwaukee in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, and he posted a 4.84 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 63:15 K:BB over 44.2 innings at the Double-A level before a recent promotion to Triple-A. Given he was added to the Halos' 40-man roster, it's possible he makes his MLB debut during the final month of the campaign.
