  • Athletics' Elvis Alvarado: Claimed by A's

The Athletics claimed Alvarado off waivers from the Pirates on Thursday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Alvarado was designated for assignment by the Pirates earlier this week and will now join a new 40-man roster. The 25-year-old has not appeared in a major-league game, most recently posting a 2.79 ERA and 71:38 K:BB over 48.1 innings at Triple-A Jacksonville in the Marlins organization in 2024.

  • Pirates' Elvis Alvarado: Designated for assignment

The Pirates designated Alvarado for assignment Wednesday. The move creates a spot on the 40-man roster for Adam Frazier, whose signing was officially announced. Alvarado has yet to appear in a big-league game but was given a major-league contract by the Pirates earlier this offseason. If he clears waivers, he'll be in camp as a non-roster invitee.

  • Pirates' Elvis Alvarado: Gets MLB deal from Pittsburgh

Alvarado signed a major-league contract with the Pirates on Tuesday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Alvarado spent the majority of the 2024 season with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate, where he posted a 2.49 ERA and 1.40 WHIP alongside a 70:36 K:BB over 47 innings. He has yet to appear in a major-league game, but the Pirates seem to like the 25-year-old righty enough to hand him a spot on their 40-man roster, and he'll have an opportunity to make the Buccos' Opening Day bullpen during spring training.

  • Marlins' Elvis Alvarado: Signs with Miami

Alvarado signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Saturday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Alvarado spent time at three levels within the Tigers' farm system in 2023, recording a 5.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 33 total innings. The 24-year-old righty has yet to advance past Double-A in his career, making it likely he begins 2024 at Double-A Pensacola with a chance to advance to Triple-A Jacksonville before the end of the year.
