Player Outlook
Andres Gimenez broke out in 2022 with a 142 wRC+ to earn a $106.5 million extension with Cleveland, though he was unable to replicate those results last season. The 25-year-old still provided strong counting stats with 15 homers, 30 steals, 76 runs and 62 RBI, but his OPS dipped over 120 points to .713 despite a rise in offense across the league. His BABIP dropped significantly to .289 that can likely be attributed to a reduced hard-hit rate, which cratered from 37.6 percent in 2022 to 27.0 percent. The second baseman remains an elite defender and had 23 DRS and 18 OAA, both of which rank second in MLB and make him a mainstay in the lineup through his slumps. Gimenez's speed and decent power production provide a strong fantasy floor with plenty of upside for a potential rebound in 2024.

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Rays. Gimenez went 18 games without a steal, though his chances were a bit limited since he got on base at a .275 clip in that span. The second baseman is still seeing most of the playing time at the keystone, though he's regularly batted sixth for nearly three weeks after often hitting second. Gimenez has 15 steals in 18 attempts, five home runs, 45 RBI, 43 runs scored and a .252/.304/.339 slash line through 89 contests this season.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Reaches 10 steals

Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Reds. Gimenez has gone 4-for-26 (.154) over six games in June, and he hasn't drawn a walk in that span. The second baseman has maintained fairly steady playing time, but he's hit lower in the order with the Guardians facing a southpaw in three of their last four games. That may be a factor in his quiet stretch, though he's still doing well overall with a .263/.318/.363 slash line, four home runs, 10 steals, 33 RBI and 35 runs scored across 60 contests.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Lifts homer in win

Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-0 win over the White Sox. Gimenez had gone 0-for-15 with one walk and a stolen base over his previous four games. He snapped the skid with a fourth-inning solo shot, his second homer of the year. The second baseman is at a .242/.307/.342 slash line with 20 RBI, 20 runs scored and five stolen bases through 38 contests. He's remained in the No. 2 spot in the order versus right-handers since Steven Kwan (hamstring) went on the injured list, but the Guardians haven't gotten much hitting from the trio of Estevan Florial, Brayan Rocchio or Tyler Freeman, who had all gotten looks at leadoff in that span. As such, Gimenez's chances to produce RBI will likely be down in the near term.

Gimenez is also striking out at a career-low 15.9 percent rate, though he may need to give back some of his plate discipline to produce more power.
