Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Strong start goes to waste
Springs allowed a run on two hits and struck out five without walking a batter over 6.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.
Aside from a Heliot Ramos solo shot to lead off the bottom of the first inning, Springs was nearly untouchable Sunday, though the same can't be said of the Athletics' bullpen. Springs has been fantastic in May, allowing just four runs over 24.2 innings despite a pedestrian 14:5 K:BB. This was his fifth quality start in 10 outings this season, and he's maintained a 3.91 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 41:21 K:BB over 53 innings. The southpaw's next start is projected to be at home versus the Phillies.

Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Excellent in win over Dodgers
Springs (5-3) allowed a run on six hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Dodgers.
Springs put together his longest outing of the season and looked excellent against a tough opponent. This is the third time in nine starts he's limited an opponent to one run or less. The left-hander trimmed his ERA to 4.27 with a 1.38 WHIP and 36:21 K:BB across 46.1 innings over nine starts. Springs' performance isn't at his peak yet -- he's striking out batters at a career-worst rate (7.0 K/9), and his 4.1 BB/9 is his highest since 2019. Still, he's getting the job done despite the flaws. Springs is tentatively projected for a road start versus the Giants this weekend.

Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Decent in no-decision
Springs allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Tuesday.
Springs gave up a run in each of the first two innings, including a solo home run to Julio Rodriguez in the opening frame. The Athletics provided a quick response each time, and Springs left with the game tied at 2-2. He wasn't all that efficient, throwing 60 of 98 pitches for strikes, but he fared well against a challenging lineup. Springs has a 4.81 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 32:19 K:BB across 39.1 innings eight starts. He's been limited to a combined 49 innings and 10 starts at the major-league level over the last two seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023, so it's unclear how he'll fare over the course of a full season. Springs is tentatively scheduled for a difficult road start versus the Dodgers in his next outing.

Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Allows five earned runs in loss
Springs (3-3) took the loss Saturday against the White Sox, allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.
The 32-year-old southpaw was unsteady out the gate against the lowly White Sox, who managed to lace four extra-base hits (one homer and three doubles) in the first inning. Springs was unable to recover from there, but he tossed 100 total pitches to absorb innings for the bullpen. Springs has floundered in his first season with the Athletics, pitching to a 6.04 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 27:16 K:BB across 28.1 innings. He currently lines up to make his next start at Texas this upcoming week.

Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Cleared to start Saturday
Springs (hamstring) is listed as the Athletics' scheduled starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the White Sox in Sacramento.
Springs exited in the third inning Sunday against the Brewers due to right hamstring tightness, but follow-up testing didn't turn up anything concerning. After completing his between-starts bullpen session without incident, Springs will be ready to take the hill on five days' rest. Acquired from the Rays in the offseason, Springs has gotten off to a rough start to his tenure with the Athletics, going 3-2 with a 5.64 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 8.7 K-BB% in 22.1 innings through his first five outings.

Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Limited concern
Springs (hamstring) expects to be ready to go for his next start Saturday versus the White Sox, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Springs pitched 2.1 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts before departing with right hamstring tightness in the third inning of Sunday's 14-1 loss to the Brewers. The left-hander said following the game that the hamstring issue felt more like a cramp that began in the second inning and worsened in the third. Springs will be re-evaluated during Monday's off day, but he thinks he'll be good to go for his next turn in the rotation.

Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Departs with hamstring tightness
Springs was removed from Sunday's start against the Brewers due to right hamstring tightness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
It was a rough afternoon for Springs from beginning to end, as he gave up six runs (four earned) and eight stolen bases over 2.1 innings before tweaking his hamstring while attempting to field a grounder. The severity of the injury isn't clear, but the left-hander's availability for his next turn through the rotation is now up in the air.

Springs also notably escaped a bases-loaded jam by punching out Joshua Palacios to end the third inning. The left-hander will aim to improve on his 4.50 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 20 innings this year in a tougher matchup in Milwaukee, which is tentatively set for this weekend.

San Diego jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the A's offense struck back for six runs against Dylan Cease in the bottom of the frame and Springs settled in once he was handed the lead. The veteran southpaw has two quality starts into his first three trips to the mound this season, and he'll take a 4.20 ERA and 16:7 K:BB through 15 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the White Sox.

Springs (1-1) took the loss against the Cubs on Wednesday. He gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out three across three innings.
Springs started out strong with two first-inning strikeouts, but things unravelled in the second frame when he gave up four runs, three of which came from a Seiya Suzuki home run. Springs needed 82 pitches to record just nine outs, which is a major step back from the six shutout frames he delivered in his season debut last week. The 32-year-old southpaw will look to get back in the win column in his next start, and he's lined up to face the Padres next week at home.

Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Fires six scoreless in A's debut
Springs (1-0) earned the win against Seattle on Friday, giving up three hits and a walk while striking out nine batters across six shutout innings.
Springs did a great job showing why the Athletics were right to trade for him in the offseason, as he kept the Mariners' hitters off balance at the plate Friday and got through his six innings of work on just 83 pitches. Durability will remain a concern for the 32-year-old throughout the season due to his recent elbow issues, but he offers plenty of upside to fantasy managers when he's healthy. He's lined up to make his next start at home against the Cubs.
