Top Tyler Kinley News

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Notches first save

Kinley allowed a hit and struck out three batters in a scoreless inning during Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals. He earned a save in the win.

Kinley coughed up a leadoff single to Dylan Crews before striking out the next three batters to close out the 3-1 victory. It was Kinley's first save of the year. He's thrown eight consecutive scoreless frames after coughing up two runs in each of his first two appearances of the season. Seth Halvorsen pitched 1.1 innings during Game 1 of the doubleheader.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Perfect in spring outings

Kinley has not allowed a run and has a 6:1 K:BB across four innings of Cactus League action.

Kinley is among the top candidates to begin the season as Colorado's closer, and he's performed very well to begin spring training. He earned a career-high 12 saves with the Rockies in 2024, though that was paired with an ugly 6.19 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Good to go for spring

Kinley (elbow) isn't expected to be operating with any restrictions in spring training after having a normal offseason, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Kinley finished last season on the injured list after developing right elbow inflammation in September, but he needed only a brief period of down time before he was able to resume throwing. With Colorado making no major additions to its bullpen during the offseason, Kinley should factor into the team's unsettled closer picture in 2025, just as he had last season before getting shut down due to the minor elbow issue. Over his 64 innings, Kinley turned in poor ratios (6.19 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 13.7 K-BB%), but the 34-year-old got the job done when called upon in save situations, converting 12 of his 13 opportunities.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Placed on IL with elbow injury

Kinley was placed on the Rockies' 15-day injured list Friday due to right elbow inflammation.

Kinley's placement on the injured list will end his season, and he'll finish the year with 12 saves and 15 holds while recording a 6.05 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 72:33 K:BB over 64 innings. Kinley took over as the Rockies' top closer after Victor Vodnik landed on the IL in mid-August, but the latter figures to reclaim that role for the rest of the regular season with the former on the shelf. Right-handed reliever Jake Bird was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Picks up 12th save

Kinley earned the save in Thursday's 4-2 win over Detroit, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

Kinley found himself in some trouble, allowing a pair of Tigers to reach base before ultimately striking out Zach McKinstry to strand the tying runs aboard. The 33-year-old Kinley took over the closer role in Colorado when Victor Vodnik landed on the IL in late August and has now converted six straight save chances. It appears that Kinley may have earned a more permanent grasp on the ninth-inning job as Vodnik, who was activated earlier in the week, was used in the seventh inning Thursday.
