  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Hitting eighth in season debut

McNeil will start at second base and bat eighth in Friday's contest versus the Nationals. It will be the season debut for McNeil, who missed the first four weeks of the season with a right oblique strain. The 33-year-old will serve as the Mets' primary second baseman but is also expected to see some action in the outfield.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Officially back from injury

McNeil (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports. McNeil was on track to return from the injured list Friday, but club instead elected to push through the transaction on Thursday's off day. He's expected to serve in a large-side platoon at second base while hitting near the bottom of the Mets' order. McNeil went 11-for-28 across eight games during his rehab assignment.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Set for season debut Friday

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that McNeil (oblique) is on track to be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's game versus the Nationals, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. McNeil will play one final rehab game Wednesday before rejoining the Mets for their weekend series on the road against the Nationals. The 33-year-old is slashing .375/.444/.667 with two home runs and a 2:3 K:BB over 27 plate appearances in his first seven rehab games. McNeil is projected to be the Mets' primary second baseman but could also see some action in the outfield.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Playing center field in rehab game

McNeil (oblique) will start in center field during a rehab game with Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. McNeil has limited experience in center field, having made three appearances there with the Mets in 2023 and another three in the minors. With Jose Siri (leg) sidelined, the club would like to have McNeil as an option to play center field. That said, most of McNeil's reps should still come at second base. The 33-year-old appears likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list early next week.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Heading to Triple-A this weekend

McNeil (oblique) will continue his rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie through Thursday before his assignment is shifted to Triple-A Syracuse, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. McNeil will presumably remain with Syracuse through the weekend before the Mets decide whether he's ready to return from the 10-day injured list at the beginning of next week. The veteran infielder is bouncing back from a right oblique strain and has already played two games for St. Lucie, going 2-for-5 with a walk and a run.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Starting rehab assignment

McNeil (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Friday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. McNeil has been ramping up his rehab from a right oblique strain and has been cleared to test things out in game action. Upon his return, the 33-year-old McNeil will serve as the Mets' primary second baseman.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: On cusp of rehab assignment

Manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that McNeil (oblique) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment later this week, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 33-year-old has been ramping up his rehab program and is nearly ready to see game action. McNeil suffered the low-grade oblique strain in mid-March and could make his season debut for the Mets within the next couple weeks.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Hitting in batting cage

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Friday that McNeil (oblique) has been hitting off a machine in the batting cage, SNY.tv reports. McNeil is working his way back from a right oblique strain, which he suffered in mid-March. He is surely going to require a rehab assignment before returning and it's not clear when that might come, but he's progressing.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Placed on 10-day injured list

The Mets placed McNeil (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Thursday. McNeil suffered a right oblique strain in mid-March and is set to miss the first couple weeks of the season. Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuna will handle second base for the Mets while McNeil is shelved.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Tweaks oblique, set to miss opener

Manager Carlos Mendoza announced Thursday that McNeil is recovering from a low-grade right oblique strain and will be out for 3-to-4 weeks, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. After missing time late last season with a wrist injury, McNeil reported to camp at full health and was poised to begin the 2025 season as the Mets' everyday second baseman until he presumably suffered the oblique strain earlier this week. Mendoza said that McNeil will be shut down from baseball activities for the next 7-to-10 days, and the 32-year-old will then need about two or three weeks to complete a hitting progression before being ready to make his season debut. With McNeil potentially headed for a stint on the 15-day injured list, Luisangel Acuna could be in line to open the season as the Mets' primary option at the keystone.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Getting start at second base

McNeil is starting at second base and batting eighth Friday in Game 5 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. It's the first start this postseason for McNeil, who was added to the Mets' NLCS roster after recovering from a fractured right wrist. He is hitless in three pinch-hitting appearances to this point in the series. Jose Iglesias -- who is 5-for-14 with a 2:1 K:BB in the series -- will begin Friday's contest on the bench.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Won't be in Game 3 lineup

McNeil will not be in the lineup Wednesday for Game 3 of the NLCS versus the Dodgers, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports. McNeil was added to the Mets' NLCS roster after recovering from a fractured right wrist but has been limited to just one pinch-hitting appearance so far, and it appears Jose Iglesias will get another start at second base in Game 3. Iglesias is slashing just .222/.263/.222 so far during the postseason.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Out of lineup again in Game 2

McNeil is not in the lineup Monday for Game 2 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. McNeil was added to the Mets' NLCS roster after missing five-plus weeks with a fractured right wrist, but Jose Iglesias will make a second straight start at second base and Starling Marte will be in the lineup again in right field Monday. After lining out as a pinch hitter in Game 1, McNeil will be a candidate to come off the bench again in Game 2.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Comes off IL, on NLCS roster

McNeil (wrist) is part of New York's roster for the National League Championship Series versus the Dodgers. McNeil ended the campaign on the 10-day injured list due to a wrist injury, but he logged at-bats in the Arizona Fall League on Friday and Saturday in preparation for returning for the series versus Los Angeles. His inclusion on the Mets' roster means New York will carry one more hitter than they did in the NLDS against Philadelphia, as reliever Adam Ottavino was left off the roster to make room for McNeil. It's likely that McNeil will work as a lefty bat off the bench during the NLCS.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Playing in AFL this weekend

McNeil (wrist) will play for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League on Friday and Saturday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. The Mets want to see how McNeil handles playing back-to-back, nine-inning games before deciding whether to include him on their potential NLCS roster. He's been sidelined since early September with a fractured right wrist but resumed full workouts earlier this week.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Hoping for AFL rehab at-bats

The Mets have petitioned Major League Baseball to allow McNeil (wrist) to play some rehab games in the Arizona Fall League, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Facing live pitching is the final hurdle McNeil needs to clear before he's ready to return to action, and sending him to the AFL is the best opportunity for that. McNeil appears to be tracking toward a return for the NLCS, should the Mets advance. He's been shelved since early September with a fractured right wrist.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Aiming to be ready for NLCS

McNeil (wrist) went through a full workout Sunday at Citizens Bank Park and hopes to be ready to play if the Mets advance to the NLCS, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Working his way back from a fractured right wrist, McNeil has taken batting practice, fielded grounders and run, with facing live pitching being the next box he needs to check. He has a little less than a week to convince the Mets he should be on their NLCS roster if they're able to top the Phillies in the NLDS. If McNeil is ultimately included on the roster, it wouldn't necessarily be in a starting role. He's been sidelined since early September.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Ramping up activities

McNeil has been cleared to ramp up activities soon after an X-ray showed his fractured right wrist is improving, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. There's no word yet on McNeil's potential availability for later in the postseason if the Mets keep advancing, but it seems as though the team is at least leaving the door open. McNeil is less than four weeks into a projected 4-to-6 week timetable.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Placed on IL with fractured wrist

The Mets placed McNeil on the 10-day injured list due to a fractured right wrist. McNeil sustained the injury Friday against the Reds, when he was hit on the wrist by a pitch in the fifth inning. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza already said that the injury will spell an end to McNeil's season, with the 32-year-old finishing with a slash line of .238/.308/.384 to go with with 12 home runs, five stolen bases and 44 RBI across 472 plate appearances. Outfielder DJ Stewart was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Exits after HBP

McNeil exited Friday's game against the Reds after being hit in the wrist by a pitch, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. McNeil was plunked in the fifth inning and remained in the game for the top of the sixth frame. However, Harrison Bader took McNeil's spot as a pinch hitter the next time through the order. After the game, the Mets announced that McNeil had suffered a right wrist contusion and will undergo imaging Saturday.
