Top Andrew Heaney News

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Handed 14th loss

Heaney (5-14) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings.

All three runs against Heaney came in the opening frame when Mitch Garver crushed a first-pitch fastball out to center field. Heaney had to work around some traffic on the bases in the second, third and fifth innings but ultimately held the Mariners scoreless after the three-run first. The seven hits allowed were the most by Heaney since he allowed seven on July 26 and he's now given up a home run in back-to-back starts. He's also lost to Seattle in all three meetings this year. For the season, Heaney owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 152:40 K:BB in 150.1 innings. He lines up to face the Mariners again at home over the weekend.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Collects fifth win

Heaney (5-13) allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out eight over six-plus innings to earn the win over the Angels on Sunday.

Heaney yielded a three-run home run to Charles Leblanc in the fourth inning and allowed the first batter of the seventh to reach on an error. Jose Leclerc let that runner score, but the Rangers were able to hold their lead, allowing Heaney to secure his first win since July 21. The veteran southpaw is now at a 3.84 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 149:39 K:BB over 145.1 innings over 29 appearances (28 starts) this season. He's projected to make his next start at Seattle.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Tames Yankees in no-decision

Heaney allowed three hits and a walk while striking out eight over five scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Tuesday.

Heaney pitched well in a tough matchup, throwing 54 of 86 pitches for strikes. He's kept runs off the board in three of his last nine appearances, and this was the third time in four outings he struck out eight batters. The southpaw is now at a 3.81 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 141:38 K:BB through 139.1 innings over 28 appearances (27 starts). Heaney's next start is projected to be at home versus the Angels. With news of Jon Gray (foot) and Tyler Mahle (shoulder) being shut down for the year, Heaney is likely to finish the campaign as a starter.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Effective over five innings

Heaney allowed a run on five hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision in the Rangers' 3-1 victory over the White Sox in a game that was suspended Tuesday and completed Wednesday.

Heaney allowed one run or zero in three of his five outings in August, including each of his last two appearances. He was able to pitch Wednesday as he didn't get an opportunity to pitch prior to the game getting suspended in the top of the first inning Tuesday. Heaney is now at a 3.95 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 133:37 K:BB over 134.1 innings through 27 starts this season. The southpaw threw 71 pitches (44 strikes) Wednesday, and while his spot in the rotation would come up for a home start versus the Athletics on Sunday, it's possible the Rangers will use a spot starter to keep Heaney on regular rest. If that happens, he'd be pushed back a day into a much tougher matchup at home versus the Yankees.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Five scoreless frames vs. Pirates

Heaney allowed five hits and a walk over five scoreless innings in a no-decision Wednesday against Pittsburgh. He struck out eight.

It was a strong rebound effort from Heaney after the southpaw surrendered seven earned runs over nine innings in his previous two starts. However, Heaney failed to come away with a win, as the Rangers couldn't get a run across until the bottom of the ninth. Overall, Heaney's 4-13 on the year with a 4.04 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 131:36 K:BB across 129.1 innings. He'll look to build on Wednesday's outing in his next start, which projects as an enticing road matchup against the White Sox.

  • Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Stuck with 13th loss

Heaney (4-13) yielded four runs on five hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out eight and taking a loss against Minnesota.

The big blow against Heaney came when Carlos Santana took him deep for a three-run shot in the fifth inning. The veteran southpaw is now 0-3 with a brutal 6.66 ERA over his last five starts, and he has just one win since the start of July. Heaney owns a 4.20 ERA with a 123:35 K:BB through 124.1 innings this season. His next start is lined up to come at home against the Pirates.
