  • Josh Manson D | COL

Avalanche's Josh Manson: Gets two-year extension

Manson signed a two-year, $7.9 million contract extension with the Avalanche on Thursday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. His new deal runs through the 2027-28 campaign.

Manson has one season remaining on his four-year, $18 million contract, so his new agreement won't start right away. He's taking a bit of a cut in pay, but Manson will celebrate his 34th birthday Oct. 7, so the Avalanche are locking him up late into his career. Manson had a goal, 15 points, 28 PIM, 65 shots, 105 hits and 59 blocks in 48 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. He has appeared in at least 70 regular-season games in just one of the last six seasons, which is a significant concern, but Manson does offer plenty of grit from the blue line when healthy.

  • Jakub Skarek G | NYI

Sharks' Jakub Skarek: Agrees to one-year deal

Skarek signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Sharks on Thursday.

Skarek was expected to join HIFK of Finland's Liiga for the 2025-26 campaign, but it seems he decided to pursue a different opportunity. The goaltender had a 3.52 GAA and an .884 save percentage in 22 regular-season outings with AHL Bridgeport in 2024-25. He also appeared in two NHL games with the Islanders last season, posting a record of 0-1-0 with a 3.95 GAA and an .872 save percentage. The 25-year-old will probably start 2025-26 in the minors, though he might get an opportunity to play at the top level if Yaroslav Askarov or Alex Nedeljkovic miss some time due to injury.

  • Matt Dumba D | DAL

Penguins' Matt Dumba: Getting change of scenery

Dumba and a 2028 second-round pick were acquired by Pittsburgh from Dallas on Thursday in exchange for Vladislav Kolyachonok.

Dumba had a goal, 10 points, 60 PIM, 57 shots, 70 hits and 60 blocks in 63 regular-season appearances with Dallas in 2024-25. He's entering the second campaign of a two-year, $7.5 million contract, so Pittsburgh is receiving the draft pick as compensation for allowing Dallas to free up some much-needed cap space with this trade. Dumba used to be a top-pairing defenseman, and he recorded at least 20 points in seven straight campaigns from 2015-16 through 2021-22. However, he's fallen substantially in recent years, averaging just 15:18 of ice time last season and spending the entire 2025 playoffs as a healthy scratch. Dumba is celebrating his 31st birthday July 25, so a comeback isn't completely out of the question, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him start the season as part of Pittsburgh's third pairing unless the Penguins make further moves to their blue line over the summer.

  • Stars' Vladislav Kolyachonok: Heading to Dallas

Kolyachonok was traded to the Stars from the Penguins on Thursday in exchange for Matt Dumba and a 2028 second-round pick.

Kolyachonok began the 2024-25 campaign with Utah and joined Pittsburgh after being waived in February. In total, he made 35 regular-season appearances between the two clubs, logging two goals, five assists, 31 blocked shots, 27 hits and 10 PIM while averaging 13:01 of ice time. He'll presumably have a chance to compete for an Opening Night roster spot with his new club during training camp, but he could have to spend some time in the minors.

  • Panthers' Mackie Samoskevich: Inks one-year deal with Florida

Samoskevich signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Panthers on Thursday.

Samoskevich's role with the Panthers grew dramatically during the 2024-25 campaign, as he recorded 15 goals, 16 assists, 134 hits, 32 blocked shots and 12 PIM while averaging 13:19 of ice time over 72 regular-season appearances. He wasn't productive enough to earn consistent playing time during the postseason, but he should be in contention for a bottom-six role once again in 2025-26 as the Panthers chase a third consecutive title.

  • Blue Jackets' Pyotr Andreyanov: Signs long-term deal

Andreyanov agreed to terms on a five-year contract with CSKA Moscow (KHL) on Thursday, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.

According to Scheig, Andreyanov's deal includes a release clause after four seasons. That means the 18-year-old backstop could make the jump to North America around the 2029-30 campaign, which for goalies is right about when he would truly begin his development as an NHL netminder. In terms of fantasy, Andreyanov really only has value in terms of dynasty formats where managers can make a long-term investment.

  • Canucks' Braeden Cootes: Puts pen to paper

Cootes signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Canucks on Wednesday.

Cootes was drafted 15th overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The 18-year-old center produced 63 points over 60 regular-season games with WHL Seattle in his draft year and is expected to return to the Thunderbirds for 2025-26 to continue his development. He's also been involved in the U17 and U18 squads for Team Canada over the last two years, so it wouldn't be surprising for him to be in the mix for a roster spot for the World Junior Championship this winter.

  • Sam Morton C | CGY

Flames' Sam Morton: Inks two-way deal

Morton signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames on Wednesday.

Morton had 20 goals and 45 points in 70 regular-season appearances with AHL Calgary in 2024-25. He also made his NHL debut with the Flames on April 17, recording a goal, four hits and a blocked shot. The 25-year-old is likely to begin the 2025-26 campaign in the minors, but he might end up logging additional games at the NHL level before the season is over.

  • Adam Beckman LW | NJ

Islanders' Adam Beckman: Re-ups with Isles

Beckman signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.

Beckman has earned three assists in 23 career NHL outings, but he didn't get to hockey's highest level in 2024-25. He earned a total of 40 points in 55 regular-season games between AHL Utica and AHL Bridgeport, and he'll likely spend most of 2025-26 with Bridgeport.

  • Riley Nash C | NYR

    Riley Nash: Hangs up skates

Nash announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday, per RDS.ca.

Nash didn't play in 2024-25 as a result of a lower-body injury. The 36-year-old garnered 63 goals and 176 points over 628 regular-season games spanning seven clubs. Nash was a first-round selection by the Oilers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
