Draft Scouting Report
Jarquez Hunter is a stout, compact feature back with a specialty in contact balance. He routinely shrugs off tacklers and maintains his momentum through contact. He’s more of a patient runner who lets his blocks develop before hitting the gas, but when he does, he shows above-average burst through the second level. His open-field speed is good, occasionally great, especially for a back with a thick frame and shorter legs.
He runs with sharp, diagonal-based cuts that retain speed but isn't a lateral jump-cut type. His vision between the tackles is a plus -- he sees lanes forming in real-time and is comfortable finding cutback opportunities when necessary. He’s not one to frequently bounce runs outside, preferring to stay north-south and take what’s available rather than forcing an ill-advised outside run. He has a functional stiff arm and doesn’t shy away from contact with third-level defenders.
He has limited receiving experience but shows reliable hands on tape. He has the movement skills to be effective in the screen game. Overall, Hunter is an underrated running back prospect with a well-rounded skill set built for early-down efficiency.

Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Added to Rams backfield
The Rams selected Hunter in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 117th overall.
Hunter began his first two seasons at Auburn as the backup to Tank Bigsby before claiming the lead role in 2023, rushing for 2,110 yards and 15 touchdowns on 346 carries over his final two seasons with the Tigers. Coming from a weightlifting background, Hunter doesn't lack for strength, and he projects as a downhill runner who can be difficult to bring down when he gets rolling. He joins an already young backfield that sports draft picks in each of the last few seasons at the top -- Kyren Williams (2022) as the starter and Blake Corum (2024) as the top backup -- and he'll likely fit in alongside Corum vying for reserve snaps behind Williams.
